what I wore : extended fall

necklace - Scarlett Garnet (a few years back)
skirt -  Modcloth  (no longer available)
tights - Target
camera bag - Jo Totes

I know talking about the weather in every single outfit post is considered boring but I think when the weather is this strange it's totally acceptable. As I type this it is 64 degrees Fahrenheit outside. The average for December in Cleveland? 34 degrees!!! It's nearly Christmas and I just looked out my window to see my neighbor walking down the sidewalk in a t-shirt and shorts! We're basically just having a majorly extended fall, and I couldn't be happier. It's awesome because I'm getting to wear all my favorite things comfortably. No doubling up tights, or multiple layers of jeans like I would normally be wearing right now. It's wonderful!

Anyway, can I tell you guys something that sounds really, really dumb? I have no idea what to wear with skirts. I mean, obviously a shirt but somehow nearly everything I try on with skirts never feels right. I have a handful of skirts that I seriously have no idea what to put on my top half when I wear them. Basically, if you see me in a skirt know that I put a ton of time into putting that outfit together. I normally opt for a plain crop top (like this or this) but that's not exactly appropriate for every situation. Anyone else have this problem? Or have a recommendation for a super awesome shirt that goes with everything? I'm planning on cleaning my closet out again real soon to get rid of things I don't wear. My skirts are kind of at risk unless I figure this out.
xoxo

  2. Love this sweater, so cute! Weather in UK is weird too, not unusually warm or mild, but lots of raining leading to flooding some parts of country.

  4. I wear skirts and dresses a lot, and I what I use most often with skirts is a really tight fitting shirt(usually black 'cause it goes with my wardrobe colours). When the shirt is tight it sits neatly under the skirt waistline and doesn't get crumpled. I like to wear skirts over the shirt like in these photos :-) I have a couple of these really tight shirts in different sleevelengts and materials to switch according to temperatures. I hope this helped/gave you and idea etc. :-)

    1. A+ advice! Guess I need to go buy some shirts specifically for this purpose.

  5. I know exactly what you mean about "not knowing" what to wear with skirts. I have the same problem every single time I decide to wear all of my skirts! I do LOOOOVE this top with it ANd your shoes! so cute!

  6. I love to wear skirts of all lengths. I wear my shirts on top and I wear mostly the same things as I would wear with jeans or slim fit khakis. Lots of layers as per usual. A fitted tank under a long sleeve tee with embroidery/chunky lace under an open longer length cardigan. I have most of my problems figuring out how to wear tights with skirts and avoiding the bunching and riding up as I walk. A slip is soo annoying to arrange every time you go to the bathroom!

PS. This hedgehog is so sweet! :)

    1. I'm not all that great at layering, maybe that's my problem...

  7. This is off-topic, but I was curious as to if the tattoo on your leg hurt. I just got a tattoo on my left calf the other day. Took two hours and my leg jerked the entire time. At first, I could barely put pressure on my leg because it hurt. It's (slowly) getting better! Haha. The guy who did my tattoo said that the shin area usually hurts pretty bad from what people have told him.

    1. Uhmm, it wasn't too bad. I definitely experienced some little jerks that I couldn't control during the process but healing was a breeze for me.

      Good luck healing! :)

  8. What a cute outfit! I love the skirt :) I'm not sure how I pair shirts with skirts. I think a lot has to do with balancing the colors, the shapes, the texture, etc. This doesn't really help haha. I think a well-fitting white t-shirt could go with anything haha!

    1. Haha, well, I mean, that's kind of helpful but I already knew that. I think the issue might be that I don't own very many shirts and I always seem to forget to shop for shirts specifically to wear with skirts.

Also, I don't think I own even one single white t-shirt! That's kinda weird.

  9. Any shirt or sweater usually works with a skirt, if you don't mind the layers sometimes I like to wear a shorter dress with a cool top under a skirt! It's a cool way to transform clothing if, like me, you easily get sick of everything you own.

    1. I've been meaning to try the dress under a skirt thing again. I always forget to do that!

  10. Ugh, I know EXACTLY what you mean about skirts! And, of course, then you see pics on IG and on blogs of girls looking so darn effortless in their skirt/top combo! What is the secret?! I always buy skirts with such high hopes...and then they end up sitting in my closet.

  11. I feel you. Some things are impossible, or nearly, to match. Like I just bought some purple corduroy pants... their great but what the heck do you wear with it?? Also my go to in these situations is grey. I have this cotton short sleeve grey shirt, kinda big, so I'll knot it on the corner or tuck it in. Over dresses, under skirt, with shorts. Honestly the thing is wore out. But anyway, you're working that skirt. Love the shoes with that blue too.

    1. Haha! Yep! I have a pair of blue pants that I always just end up wearing a black shirt with - and it looks fine but I want to do something different!

Shirts over dresses is something I can't seem to nail either. Whenever I see someone doing it I think it looks so darn cute but I guess nothing I own really works for it.

  12. I have the same problem. Both with always talking about the weather and not knowing what to wear with skirts! I think you pulled off this sweater and skirt combination perfectly. As for the weather...well lets hope my area gets snow soon, our local economy depends on it and our economy is being totally crushed this winter. 😢

    1. Thank you so much!

Yeeeeah, I'm really hoping for some snow too. I obviously like this warm weather but it just doesn't feel like Christmas without snow.

  13. I wear a highwaisted skirt pretty much everyday I'm not wearing a dress. My go tos for tops are: Crop tops, Shorter vintage style sweaters, and body suits.

    1. Oh man! I kind of forgot body suits existed! Do you have a favorite you'd recommend? I don't even know where to begin the search.

  14. I wear skirts every day here in the Bangkok heat, and I'm getting so bored of the simple t shirt tucked in look (I usually go for v-necks from Target). My new go to? A lightweight long sleeve button up with the bottom few buttons undone and the resulting tails tied in a knot and the sleeves rolled up. It's forgiving and breathable and cute. I bet you would rock this look. One of my favorite combos is a lumberjack plaid with a navy pleated skirt.

  15. Ah finally. Someone else who seems to share the idea of 'what the hell do I wear with this cute skirt'.
