Foxy Lady

by Kaylah Stroup

I spent last Sunday at my parents house celebrating my grandpa’s birthday. The weather was gorgeous, especially considering it’s mid November, so it was the perfect opportunity to take some updated photos of the foxes.

Tramp was being a bit of a stinker, exercising his dominance again. He so badly wants to come run around somewhere different with Lady but he wants to do it on his own terms. Sadly, no photos of him in this update but lots of Lady! I’m not really sure that she looks all that different not compared to the photos I shared of her back in October but you’re not gonna complain about more fox photos, right? Hah! Anyway, there are definitely subtle changes that are more obvious in person. One being that she is getting her winter coat in. She is SO fluffy! She looks a little bit chubbier than before but it’s alllll fur.

Another new thing is that she let me pet her!!! When the foxes were babies they were all about cuddles, especially Lady. She spent a great deal of time sleeping in my arms that first day I met her. They out grew that fairly quickly, and became very skeptical of human touch. When you’re in the fenced in space with them it’s important to be very still and keep quite. They run around like complete nuts but are startled easily. You might be able to steal quick pet here and there but for the first time on this last visit Lady laid down in front of me and let me stroke her back. I can’t even begin to tell you how soft she is. I wish she’d curl up in my lap and let me pet her but really anything is better than nothing. Plus I get it, playing in the fallen leaves, and sticking your nose inside stinky shoes is way more fun than getting pet.

You can find previous posts on Lady and Tramp here – June, late June, July, August, and October.

Just a note to add that foxes definitely aren’t for everyone. They
require a lot of work, care, and attention. Not to mention in most
states they are illegal to keep as pets unless you have a license. Please do your research!

I just can't get over how beautiful she has gotten! I visited a refuge today and met another Russian Silver – she looked so sad. She had been abandoned by someone who wanted her as a pet, but just as a baby… I hate the exotic pet trade so much!!! So it makes me happy that people like your dad are taking good care of these guys.
