my lapel pin collection

by Kaylah Stroup
pin game, lapel pins

If you’ve been following my blog for any amount of time, you might have noticed in my what I wore posts that I kind of have a thing for accessories. Fun necklace, rings, brooches, lapel pins, etc. I love them all. I 100% do not abide by the quote “before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory.” I basically do the opposite. Before leaving the house I usually look in the mirror to make sure I have at least a few eye catching things on.

These last six months or so lapel pins have become pretty darn hip. I’m ashamed to admit that I’m usually kind of sour when things I love become super popular but there are so many independent companies out there making them and you can find one for just about any interest you may have. I’ve welcomed this boom with open arms. I love finding new brands with lapel pins. They’re small, and usually cost less then $10 a piece so they’re easy to collect. They’re a really awesome way to support creative folks and their businesses (…at least that’s how I justify having so many!)

I thought it would be a fun idea to share some photos of my collection! This little three dollar bulletin board from the deals section at Target is the perfect way to display them all. It’s nice to see them all at a glance instead of storing them in a dish where I may forget what all I have.

Directly above in the dish are a few of my favorite and most worn pins.

It would be crazy hard to link to where each of the pins are from so instead I’ll link to all the folks I own pins from and then you can blame me when you blow all your money on pins!

Do you collect lapel pins? I would love to see your collection!

Thanks, Stephanie!

I like the idea of displaying them on a bulletin board, but where do you keep the backs?

Kaylah October 29, 2015 - 1:51 pm

I have a little dish for them all. I usually keep the board on my vanity so all the backs just stay in a drawer.

Love these! I have the dancing girls emoji too, which I love so much. Big Bud Press has some good ones you might like – http://www.bigbudpress.com

I used to collect pins when I was in junior high but stopped. Then I accumulated a whole bunch recently through PAX and now there are so many cool indie ones popping up… Ugh! Must. Curb. Collecting.

Kaylah October 29, 2015 - 1:56 pm

Haha! Yeah, once you start it's hard to stop!

The Walter one has been on my to-buy list for years, ever since it first appeared in a post, I think. Following your blog has definitely upped my lapel pin consumption.

Kaylah October 29, 2015 - 1:57 pm

Hah! Sorry! 😛

Is that a deviled egg ?!?! That's easily the best pin ever, I love it so much!!!

Kaylah October 29, 2015 - 1:58 pm

It sure is! 😀

I love them!
These boards are good for displaying any kind of jewelry, plus they are easily transformed with paint.

Kaylah October 29, 2015 - 1:58 pm

Totally!

Oh man, I'm so jealous! I too love accessories but I feel like I'm so clumsy at using them! :/ I just got a pin from Coney Island that I love, so maybe that can be the start to my collection. My favorite is the one from Beetlejuice!

Yeah, the Beetlejuice one was an instant favorite for me. I'm so afraid of losing it.

Those are great (especially the Beetlejuice one)! The only pin I wear with any regularity says FEMINIST WITH A TO-DO LIST. It's from Word for Word factory: https://www.etsy.com/shop/wordforwordfactory

Kaylah October 29, 2015 - 2:01 pm

That pin has been tempting me for so long!

I have always admired your pin collection! I collect them as well and my friends will often buy me pins from thrift shops so I have quite a strange collection. Recently though I have just finished school and I have SO MANY lapel pins from school that I didn't want to just throw away, so I'm painting over them with cute designs. One of my favourites is actually inspired by the teepee one you own because the shape of the badge was so hard to think of a design for. xx

Kaylah October 29, 2015 - 2:01 pm

Oh, that's a fun idea painting your own designs!

I posted about my "brooches" collection recently, http://www.robayre.com/news/2015/09/07/brooches/
which includes pins and felt and wood. I consider my taste in jewelry to be more "wearable art" collections

I found there a pin made by a dude I know 😀 I´m gonna let him know
Great collection by the way

I've never been good at collecting things, but I sooooo want to collect Lapel Pins now!!!

I started out collecting a few pins from Pintrill and Adam JK last year but you've definitely opened my eyes to all the pin makers out there!
I've been having trouble keeping track of them so I bought a small cork board today after seeing this post. My favorite two I picked up recently are a sriracha bottle from Lil Bullies and a little stubby pencil from City of Industry.

Wowowow! This is the best collection I've ever seen; they look so good all together. 🙂 I have a few of these and I think you'd like the pins at Rosehound Apparel too. No affiliation, they're just great.

Ah I love pins so much! I noticed that you had some national park ones in there! On my bucket list is to visit every national park, and in addition to collect a patch and pin from each (you are right they are a totally cheap thing to collect). I actually just picked up the national park passport that you talked about on the blog in the past! I can't wait to start filling it up with cancellations!
