Over the weekend Jeff and I went out to my parents house to celebrate my niece’s golden birthday. (Seven on the seventh!) It’s always nice to escape the city, and visit with my family but this particular visit just felt extra special. My eldest brother hasn’t lived in Ohio for a while, so my other brother’s children and his have never been able to celebrate fall together. The whole family pitched in raking leaves and then the six kids had at it! They eventually ended up arguing over whose turn it was to jump in the pile but it was so satisfying to get to watch them all experience the joy of playing in the leaves together. You can’t help but feel a little bit warm and fuzzy seeing them have SO much fun.
This is why fall is my favorite time of the year. The colors are beautiful. The weather is absolutely perfect, not too warm, not too cool! The fallen leaves make the ground crunchy and when the wind blows just right it smells so great. Best of all? It doesn’t matter how old you are, playing in the leaves is always fun.
Fall could last all year and I wouldn’t be mad. I seriously can’t express it clearly enough how much I love this season. I hope everyone gets to experience a true fall season at least once in their life, there’s nothing like playing in a huge pile of leaves!
xoxo
The little things is an on-going series celebrating the little things that make life special… and look, for once it’s not a sunset! Haha!

Aww they look like they're having so much fun 🙂 gorgeous photos.
Thank you! 🙂
Oh goodness, these are such fun photos!
Thanks, Stephanie! I couldn't resist sharing them. 🙂
Such sweet pictures!! I can feel the warm and fuzzy-ness just from looking at them. My favorite is the photo of your dad, what a character! Thank you for sharing the beauty of the little things in life!
It's so hard to get a photo of my dad but I do it always captures his true nature. He's such a goof! 😀
I always pity people who live in California or Arizona who never get true seasons. We recently moved to a town 1/32 the size of our old one and its made fall even more heavenly… All the hay rides, haunted houses, Boo At The Bridge (we live at the rim,of the Royal Gorge) and other community things, burning leaves is legal here and smells amazing, huge old growth trees with tons of leave. Agh i love it!!! And the new Toasted Graham Latter.
Right!? I love being out west but I also REALLY love seasons. And yessss, burning leaves smells so nice. I mean, I guess it doesn't smell great but it's a really cozy smell. It reminds me of childhood.
All I can think of right now is that scene from The Great Pumpkin where Linus dives into a pile of leaves Charlie Brown just finished raking.
Lesson learned: Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker.
🙂
fall is my favorite!
that photo of your dad in the leaves is frame worthy. happy and playful and just pure fabulous.
my other favorite is the image below your dad, the young girl with the leaves in her hair. she reminds me of the fairies in shakespeare's a mid summer night's dream. (my favorite play of all time.) what a capture! this picture is also deserving of a frame. and being put up for sale! just wonderful!
I took so many photos of the leaves in her hair. I can't imagine what a mess that was to untangle but it sure made for great photos! 😛
Aww! What a wonderful day that must have been! It kind of makes me miss that one year I lived up north!
Only kind of?! 😛
I can smell that dry leaf smell just by looking at these photos!
Such a great smell!
I just had to post this link to you because it is adorable, and I feel like you'd appreciate it.

Hahaha @ your boyfriend. Thats a total dad joke!
These are AWESOME little portraits. Shot with the 50 1.2?
