foxy lady + tramp

by Kaylah Stroup

I don’t know if you guys are prepared for the cuteness that this post contains. If you’ve been reading for some amount of time you know I come from a family of animal lovers. My whole life we were the family with the strange pets; raccoons, wolves, flying squirrels (which my dad still raises) and so much more. It’s funny because my dad is this tough guy who rarely shows emotion but he is just so sweet with animals. Recently he adopted the animal he’s been dreaming of for years – a fox. Rather he adopted two foxes which my parents named Foxy Lady, Lady for short, and Tramp.

When my parents first sent me a photo of Lady, the little black one, I didn’t even know what she was. It was killing me that I couldn’t go over immediately to meet her. I was with a group of friends when I got the picture. We passed my phone around guessing what this little fuzzy thing was. A dog? A bear? My mom is incredibly supportive of my dad’s love of animals but a bear is probably the one thing she would say no to. Lady is just so young that her ears are small still, and don’t immediately give away what she is. Even after meeting her in person, she still looks like some kind of silly raccoon dog to me.

My first free day I went over and was instantly enamored. Both foxes were even smaller, cuter, and fuzzier than I had imagined from all the photos I was sent. It was a gloomy day, they’re quick (when they’re not snoozing) and my parents living room doesn’t have the best lighting so I didn’t get as many high quality photos as planned. Luckily black and white makes these salvageable.

At the time I took these photos (at the beginning of the month) Lady was only a few weeks old and still being fed from a dropper. My mom wraps her up, because she’s a little wiggle worm, and feeds her just like a baby. It’s obscenely precious. Between sips she lets out the funniest little noises to demand more food. At one point my mom even turns her over and pats her on the back because Lady has inhaled her food too quickly.

After eating, and running around the living room to burn off all her energy she climbed up into my lap and quickly drifted off to asleep. I melted. Throughout the day she did this a couple more times. Each time completely breaking my heart. Such a sleepy little thing.

I’m so excited to watch these babies grow up. I can’t wait to see how their personalities develop. I’ll be sure to share more photos as soon as possible.
xoxo

Just a note to add that foxes definitely aren’t for everyone. They require a lot of work, care, and attention. Not to mention in most states they are illegal to keep as pets unless you have a license. Please do your research!

You were right, Kaylah… I was in no way prepared for the cuteness of this post, even though my guess from the photo you posted yesterday was right. I am now in cuteness overload status! I love your description of your dad – I would say the exact same thing about mine… flying squirrels and baby raccoons included! (We haven't had foxes yet though!)

I can't wait to follow your documentation of them as they grow!

Hah! Glad the level of cuteness did not disappoint.

Oh good grief…. these are just to die for adorable photos of such wonderful creatures. We have heard a fox on or near our property, but that was a year ago. He must have just been passing through our neighborhood, but they have a distinctive sound/cry. Your parents sound wonderful!

So cute! What species of fox are they? Lady looks like an Arctic and Tramp is maybe a Cross(Red) fox?

Kaylah June 8, 2015 - 4:44 pm

You know, I'm not 100% sure.

Oh god…this is the best and most adorable thing I've seen all day, possibly all month. Foxes are gorgeous creatures x

They're super precious!!!
If I may ask: seeing they're so young, did your parents find them somewhere? Or adopt them from a shelter?

Oh my god…I look at creatures like that and wonder "how the heck could you even get anything done in a day with those guys running around?!" They're too cute. I'd probably just sit and stare at 'em all day and never do a dang thing. Foxes are…the most spectacular creatures. That's amazing and way too cute. Your parents rock!

Kaylah June 9, 2015 - 6:44 am

Haha! Same, I just can't get enough of them.

C.W. Cheresh June 10, 2015 - 7:03 pm

Dangit California and your incredibly strict pet laws. I suppose I'll have to stick to amassing a small army of cats in lieu of being foxless. Can't wait to see more pictures so I can experience vicarious fox ownership through your parents XD

Good gravy, the cuteness!! What adorable little foxes! I'm curious, where do they adopt them? One of my aunts runs an animal rehab center out of her home, but she often adopts the pets that are too sick and/or brain damaged to survive back out in the wild. Didn't know if it was that type a thing. Anywho, lovely pictures as usual!

Kaylah June 9, 2015 - 6:43 am

They adopted them from a man who raises foxes, coyotes, and tons of other animals.

Thanks! 🙂

These guys are so stinkin cute! Just curious did your Dad get them from a breeder or were they lost pups in the yard? I'm not looking for a fox just curious, I know they are domestication foxes in Russia like dogs.

Dear lord… what a cutties! It would be my dream pet too! Although here in Portugal it's illegal to have one, if by fate you cross by one that need your help, you catch her and then you gave her to the authorities that will take them to parks were they will be well treated. Your parents they found them one the woods or you can just adopt from another person? I'm curious 🙂

Oh my goodness!! Foxes are beautiful and I have always wanted one! I didn't know you could get a license to do it!! That is so exciting! Can't wait to see more!

Mindi Wooley June 8, 2015 - 11:08 pm

Oh my gosh, they're SO cute!!! Everytime I see a baby animal, I declare them officially the cutest baby animal ever…and it happens with EVERY baby animal. But these two are literally the cutest 😉 I can't wait to see more photos of them!

My heart has melted! They are so adorable! Foxes have always been one of my favourite animals, but I've never seen this breed/s in real life. Your parents have my dream life.

Oh my god. I don't think I've ever seen such the cuteness before. The little one IS like a wee bear-dog. They look very sweet— and mischievous. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Oh, my gosh, they're sooooo cute!! You can never be prepared for something like this, I'm melting away..
I already thouht red foxes were the coolest animals ever but that was before I saw Lady; a black fox! I didn't even know they existed! I'm in love… Hope to see more photos of them growing up!

Heather Shoberg June 10, 2015 - 1:42 pm

Your parents are seriously the coolest. I've only seen foxes in the wild a few times, but they are such neat critters. Also, I love that photo of your dad with the cigar. Ha ha.
