It’s the little things…

by Kaylah Stroup

So, how precious is that salamander? It’s a Northern slimy salamander, Plethodon glutinosus, and yes, he was very slimy. When I got to my parents my dad was removing the wood that didn’t get burned over the winter from the porch. He called me over to see what I assumed would be a big spider (because if you’ve never had a massive woodpile right outside your door – they’re spider city, man!)  but it was this little guy! My goodness, that little face is so adorable. There are some animals that I just can’t wrap my head around the fact they’re actually real because they’re just so neat, and this is definitely one of them. I took so many photos of him but when it’s something like that it just never feels like I took enough.

Salamanders have got to have THE cutest face out there. I love the last photo of the "fashion toad". That's adorable 🙂

These photos are insanely cute! Favorites are the photo bombing ant of course, and that dapper frog wearing an acorn hat. LOL You are simply too fun!

I'm always so impressed by the results of your macro photography! I always have trouble with the focus – what settings do you usually shoot on?

You might want to try shooting at a different aperture if you're having trouble with focusing macro shots.

Also- obviously, unless it's a macro lens you're not going to be able to get super close which would also result in out of focus photos.

These are such fantastic pictures! I particularly like 'fashion toad' and the very serious expression in the one above 🙂

I don't know, fashion toad looks pretty serious too! Fashion is ~so~ serious! 😛

GIRL. Stop it. These are just too stinkin' awesome. I love seeing little guys like these showcased like this, instead of like creepy crawlies or pests!

That toad shot five down from the top? AMAZING. I think if that toad knew what a great shot you'd got of him, he'd be pretty stoked.

Also, if you were contemplating new art prints to add to your Society6 store any time soon, I'd totally snag a toad print 🙂

Hahaha, thanks!

Awesome, thank you, I'll get around to that sometime super soon. 🙂

I love these! Your macro photos are fantastic, please don't ever sell that lens. I love the little salamander. I used to see a ton of little orange ones in upstate NY.

Kaylah May 20, 2015 - 12:05 pm

Thanks, Kaili! Oh, I love the little orange guys! So darn cute.

My heartstrings were already being pulled with every adorable photo of that salamander, but I absolutely died when I saw Fashion Toad. *clutching chest from cuteness overload*
