First Hike of Spring

by Kaylah Stroup

One of my favorite spring activities is hiking with my family. This year it seems like spring was a little slow to start. The snow took forever to melt, and the cold just seemed to linger on and on. That coupled with the fact I’m now living a lot further away from my parents means our family hikes have been quite limited. Easter was the first one all year. It was great though because my brother, my nephew, and my niece joined us as well. It’s really fun to see the little ones (although they’re not so little anymore!) getting into nature. Grace came wearing a vest that was equipped with a magnifying glass, walkie talkie and a few containers for bugs. I’m kicking myself for not getting a picture of that now! But I did take lots of other pictures…

I guess it’s becoming kind of an annual tradition for me to share photos from early spring hikes. Check out last year’s post – 2014.
xoxo

I love hiking too, your photos are beautiful! It's been a slow start to spring here as well, but hopefully things will start to warm up next week 🙂

Thanks! 🙂

I always want to rush it but this time of the year is rather exciting. All the new growth, the excitement of warmer weather coming soon. I love it!

I love all the fungi and texture photos you've shared here. Spring time hikes are wonderful – so much new growth to enjoy.

I love these posts and your boots are too cute!!

Thanks, Mindi!

I actually can't believe these boots have held up so long. They've been holding on for two years which I feel like is a really long time for rubber boots, especially cute ones.

The best season for hiking! After winter, getting outside and seeing life is exhilarating. I'm planning my first hike tomorrow, I'm so excited that the snow is practically gone 🙂

Amazing pictures! I love exploring with my family, I wish I lived closer (14 hours away…) to do it more!

Thanks, Kim!

Aw man, I can't even imagine. Sometimes I think about moving really far away but I'd miss my family too much.

Did you use your microlens for these?

I've been borrowing it from Jeff. It's seriously such an awesome lens. I can't get enough of it.

Gorgeous pictures! I love how you captured both the small details and then shots of your family exploring. =) When this semester of college of is over, I hope to be outside a lot more. Homework and projects have made me somewhat of a hermit.

It's a good time to hike : the awaking of the nature from the long winter it's just magical in my opinion 😀

Your dog is adorable. I did notice that you have his harness on upside down – it is designed for the latching strap to go across his chest and the lead to come up from his back. My buddies dog had the same harness and people would always put it on upside down like you have, it fits much better the other way 🙂

Whoops, it is on upside. That happens when someone is impatient and fidgety when I try to put it on him. But the lead shouldn't come from his back, it's supposed to come from his chest. This harness is designed to stop pulling.
