Blue + Green Foreverrrr

by Kaylah Stroup

My hair was orange for a while there, around two months which is pretty long in my world. I actually think that orange, pink and purple combo might have been one of my favorite dye jobs in the history of me dying my hair. But one night, when it was a bit faded, I was bitten by the hair dye bug and decided right then that I had to dye my hair. I went blue, yellow, and purple. From the second I rinsed it out, I wasn’t too crazy about it. So, of course, I did the worst thing possible, I didn’t take care of it. I showered in hot water everyday and within no time at all it was looking way worse than ever. I cannot stand faded colors. I pride myself on having vibrant hair. I had another “must dye my hair NOW” moment. Checked my bathroom cupboard that is usually stocked full of options to find that I had about 5 brand new jars of turquoise, a half a jar of purple, and half a jar of green. I decided to wing it, nothing could look worse than the faded look I had going on.blue hair, green hair, dyed hair, colorful hairblue hair with bangsI applied Punky Colour Turquoise with a dash of Punky Colour Alpine Green mixed in to the top. Same but a little more of the green to the middle, and mostly green with a pinch of turquoise on the bottom layer. My hair was faded when I applied the dye but very much so still blue on top, yellow in the middle, and purple underneath so there are definitely some areas the purple affected the green (as seen in the photo above) but I’m really digging it! blue hair, green hair, dyed hair, colorful hair, the dainty squid, kaylah doolan hairblue hair, green hair, dyed hair, colorful hairFor a last minute dye job I think it turned out really well! My favorite part is that it looks a little different in every lighting. These photos were taken right in front of a window but depending on the room I’m in it can either look totally blue, or totally green.

Oh, I love it! My hair always bleeds out so fast, even if I use Goldwell Elumen with Lock, and I am very jealous of your vibrant hair. Because I am allergic of Manic Panic, Directions etc. Elumen is my only choice but I hate the feel of the silicones afterwards plus all my healthy hair products can't reach the hair core. I think I have to *gasp* grow my natural haircolour out. Which will look horrible having purple hair right now. And will take years and years. And I don't like it. But are there any alternatives? Hmpf.

Greetings,
Annika from themuffintop-less.blogspot.de

Oh, that stinks! I'm sure there's a dye out there for you though. There are new brands popping up everyday.

I looooove it! I actually found your blog searching about hair dye. Still waiting for some of my (boring brown/red) dye to grow out so I can bleach it w/o frying it.

Kaylah January 30, 2015 - 1:32 pm

Good luck! Waiting to dye your hair is seriously so awful. I'm incredibly impatient.

Kelsea Echo January 29, 2015 - 4:44 pm

I think the sunset look (that's how I think of it) was one of my faves of yours too! But there's just something about turquoise/teal – it's almost what I consider the "classic" of alternative hair colors. Is that weird? Haha. I always end up going back to blue. 🙂 Maybe it's the mermaid vibes? Who knows. Your new color is gorgeous, as always! 🙂

I know you said you aren't crazy about it fading, but I'd love to see a hair color post where you share a before picture so we can see where it started.

Kaylah January 30, 2015 - 1:33 pm

That's actually a really good idea! I'll definitely try to remember to do that.

Love love love. Blues and greens are the BEST. I've got blue on top and purple under at the mo, but I've got a pot of apple green hidden away and now you've given me itchy hands to dig it out…
xx

Do it!!!

I did, I did!! Aaaahhhh yay!
We don't get Manic Panic in the UK (as far as I know…) I use Directions, I'm guessing it's pretty similar. x

Gorgeous hair and I know what you mean, when my hair was vibrant purple I always wanted to maintain the brightness as it didn't look half as good faded xx

The funny thing is when my hair is faded that's when I get the most compliments out in public. I don't quite understand but it is a nice little reminder that my hair isn't as bad as it looks.

I adore it! You manage to look perfect in every hair colour! It is magic, I tell you…

The fact that intrigues me so much, though, is that your hands never seem stained. My own hair bleeds like crazy for about a week or two after dyeing it… especially after playing with it (which I tend to do when I am nervous).
How do you avoid the staining on your fingers? Is Punky Colour so resilient that it doesn't even stain? :/

Ps.I love your blog, you are a constant source of inspiration!

Kaylah January 30, 2015 - 1:43 pm

Hehe, thanks!!

For the most part, yeah. I never really have stained fingers except for after the very first time I rinse. My finger nails usually stain (so I just wear dark polish) for about a week but other than that no staining at all – not on my clothes, hands, pillow cases, anything. I really like Punky Colours!

Bethany Susan January 30, 2015 - 12:35 pm

Mermaid hair at its best! This is one of my faves you've done!

Kaylah January 30, 2015 - 1:44 pm

Thanks!!

Jennifer Tulip January 30, 2015 - 12:42 pm

Love this colour combo! Do you normally just let your hair fade before switching colours or do you use a stripper? Or just bleach?

Kaylah January 30, 2015 - 1:45 pm

It depends on what color I'm doing next. For the most part I always let me hair face before doing anything, even if I am going to bleach it because that's just a little bit less that needs bleached out.

Jamie Rose D. January 31, 2015 - 12:42 am

I think this blue-green hair looks amazing. I always love seeing the different bright hair colors you come up with. You look fantastic in every single one!

I remember seeing red on you and was suprised because your hair had been blue for a while but after that we didn't see it much of it so I'm definitely loving this come back. This shade is incredibly beautiful 🙂
