abandoned apartments

by Kaylah Stroup
Last week Jeff, Brandon, and I met up early in the morning to do some exploring. I had scoped out a few abandoned buildings while cruising around the East side of Cleveland, things I wouldn’t necessarily snoop around by myself. That day we made our way into and around three abandoned apartment buildings. The first was actually the tallest abandoned structure I’ve ever been in, 10 stories tall! We, of course, hiked up the stairs and to the roof first. The view was incredible but I was more interested in what might be inside. As it turned out, there wasn’t much at all. Most of the apartments had been completely cleaned out. A few had a handful of items left, and then there was one that formerly housed a hoarder. (I’m sure it won’t be hard for you to figure out which photos those are!) Anyway, here’s a mix of photos from all three buildings…

As we were exiting the last building and approaching the car, a cop rolled up to us. Instead of feeling us out on what we were doing, as if it wasn’t painfully obvious, he said “Hope at least of you is packing!” On that note, we were outta there!

Ohhh shit. If a police man tells you to carry a gun that can't be a good sign! Love the picture of the chair in the shambles, the lighting is perfect.

Woah that sounds so crazy but the photos are awesome. Seems so sad that people would leave behind photos of their loved ones.

I know, right? It's amazing how little people cherish photos.

Do you ever worry about your safety going in abandoned buildings like that? Not that it's stopping you or anything but just wondering.

Kaylah November 18, 2014 - 11:14 pm

Of course. It's always a concern.

WOW brilliant photos. Abandoned buildings are so odd! What makes people just get up and leave all their stuff?! It's so interesting.

Thanks, Rachael.

That armchair photo is the best. There is something about ancient peeling wallpaper… Really enjoy your urban hacking adventures!

I LOVE peeling wallpaper!

You guys would have a good time finding places in St. Louis. Our downtown has a lot of abandoned buildings and cool graffiti. It can be a little dangerous though and probably better to do in a group haha.

Noted! 😉

All the kitchen cabinets… what a waste. They are handy in garages, and some people could redo their kitchen/hobby room, if painted and fixed up! Amazing the waste in our society. Great photos, thanks!

The photo of the chair with the peeling room in the background is so stoic. The room's layout is the same as my living room!

How are there so many abandoned places in Chicago!? I'm so jealous. 🙁

Kaylah November 20, 2014 - 4:32 pm

I mean, I don't know anything about Chicago since these are all in Cleveland 😛

But there really are abandoned places everywhere. They're nothing to be jealous of.

They look sad and beautiful at the same time. P.S. What a great blog, I love it 🙂
