114 : 365 One of my long time internet pals, Nicole, sent me the nicest package! She's ridiculously talented!!
115 : 365 Told my boyfriend, who I thought was at work, that I was having a crappy morning. An hour later he showed up with cupcakes and whisked me away on adventure.
116 : 365 Tried taking some photos of my new hair color but someone else wanted in on the action.
117 : 365 Spent the afternoon with Mickey looking for beach glass. I think it's safe to say we hit the jackpot. I have never in my life found so much glass. She even found the coolest little bottle that I'm still green with envy over.
118 : 365 Sick day in bed with the snuggliest meezer.
119 : 365 Pretty new things for my ears from Omerica Organic. I think these might be my favorite pair to date. I haven't worn another pair since getting them! (PS. Don't forget you can use rep code "daintysq" for 20% off your order!)
120 : 365 Accidentally stumbled upon a World Market which means one thing to me - fancy pop! I love trying them all. I think I'm most excited about that salted caramel root beer.
121 : 365 Had a ladies adventure day with Jesi, Mickey, and Jeana. It didn't exactly go as planned due to weather but we had fun none the less. We briefly explored an abandoned elementary school but it wasn't even a quarter of as exciting as the last school. This is one of the very very few photos I shot there.
122 : 365 A photo of our photobooth pictures from the previous day's adventure. Certainly didn't mean to end up in a mall, especially one that's still in use, but when the word photobooth comes up, I'm always game!
123 : 365 Just a little creep watching the world from inside his catnip bag.
124 : 365 Went back to the abandoned school with Jeff.
(See more school photos here - Part One, Two, + Three)
 125 : 365 My father's other children.

  1. I have some questions :
    - How come those schools are abandonned ? Do you know the stories behind this ?
    - What are those animals in the last picture ?

    :]

    1. Lack of funding, most likely.

They're flying squirrels. Those guys are just babies, 18 days old.

  2. That's crazy all those nice sewing machines are still in such good shape (it seems) to be in an abandoned school. Do people often steal from places like that? I feel like they would but it's good they don't seem to. Also, unrelated, but you used to talk about having kind of social anxiety and it seems you are much happier now. That's awesome! :)

  3. Good lord! Ohio seems like such a wasteful place!! Nothing gets salvaged from these schools? They're just left to rot with useful things inside? Glad I'm not a taxpayer there. an elementary was recently shut down near my parents, now it's an old folks home.

    1. You certainly can't judge a whole state on something one school did.

For the record, basically the only thing left in the second school was the sewing machines and a ratty old couch.

  4. Although your photos of the lighters and combs are gorgeous, the amount of beach litter people leave behind them is so discouraging.

  6. Abandoned places are so neat, but I would be completely terrified to explore them. You don't know what you're going to come across!

  8. I love all these abandoned places photos! I've very interested in exploring some abandoned places here in Pennsylvania, myself. Of course, a good start would be Centralia, I suppose! Have you ever been there in your travels?

  14. Oh, flying squirrels are so sweet! My dad is really into them too and showed me how to raise them when I was a kid. My very first squirrel, Joey, died last year at age 13!

Also, just wanted to say that I've been reading your blog for years I think it's great that you are where you are now in life :)

Thanks for kicking my butt in gear.

    2. Awesome, I'll be looking forward to that. About half the books you post about are ones I've already read and liked, so it always makes me want to check out the ones I haven't heard of since we have similar tastes

  16. Have you heard of the abandoned tuberculosis hospital in Lima, Ohio? My friends and I went there once, and it was cool but I was totally creeped out. We also went to an abandoned jail in Whitehouse, OH... but we had to do a lot of climbing to get in. Regardless of why they've been abandoned, I think it's cool that you can still get enjoyment out of those places. And for everyone who keeps commenting about taxes being wasted, they have no idea what the story could be behind these abandoned places. There are lots of possibilities other than the district simply wanting to build a new school. The school could have gone bankrupt, it could have been forced to merge with another district. And in such a situation they probably didn't have money to demolish the place. Also, in order for it to be repurposed some community group or business organization actually has to be interested in doing that.

  17. I need to find some peeps that want to explore abandoned buildings with me - I find them so... romantic? If that makes any sense. :)
And you could post kitty and doggie pictures 24/7 and I wouldn't get sick of them.

  20. I am so inspired to go on adventures when I read your blog, Kaylah. Now I just need to find some friends and some pretty/interesting places to explore in my city. Though, Raleigh is considered "new" so I am not sure how much luck I'll have. Might have to make a trip up to Philadelphia to adventure in my husband's hometown.

  21. Nicole is amazing! I've got a couple of her prints myself. She's grown sooo much as an artist over the past few years, it's been wonderful to watch the progression.

  22. World Market is dangerous territory for me. They sell a lot of candy and other treats from the UK and whenever I'm feeling homesick I end up buying my bodyweight in Digestives and Caramacs. Next time I go there I'll definitely be picking up some fancy root beer!
