my new favorite thing...

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

I recently purchased this beautiful thing and have fallen madly in love with biking. Last month Jeff invited me along on a bike ride with a few of his friends. Well, it was more like he insisted I go after I turned him down. They ride all the time, and I haven't ridden more than a block or so in over ten years so I was worried I would be all tired out in no time. As it would turn out, I literally had the best time ever. It might even have been one of my favorite days in Cleveland so far, prompting this tweet as soon as we returned from our seventeen mile ride through downtown and some of the neighboring areas...
That night I had to borrow one of his friend's bikes but as soon as we got back from the ride I knew I had to get a bike of my own. I did a little bit of browsing online but soon found this baby. I couldn't get her off my mind. She had to be mine. A week or so later I bit the bullet and ordered the bike I wanted. I haven't looked back since.
This is my first fixed gear bike. I had actually never even been one before buying this one which could have been a pretty bad idea. But I'm really really into it. It's certainly a bit more of an intense workout, which whopped my butt my first ride on her. But I am completely in love. I don't think I'll ever go back to a bike with a free wheel. I feel strong, I feel in control, and I feel powerful on my bike.
I'm looking forward to many, many more rides around my beautiful new city!
xoxo

  1. Riding fixed is SO much fun. Its so hard to explain to someone that hasn't ridden that way before. Going back to a free wheel is super tough too! Enjoy.

  4. I've never done fixed riding... At least not in many years, if ever. How does it differ? And how do the handlebars differ? Thanks! This bike is just so gorgeous!
Glad to see more posts where you seem happy lately! :)

  8. Wow this bike is gorgeous! I have a mixte frame bike with the same hadlebars, but they are eighter too low or too narrow, depending on where I place my hands for me to ride comfortably.

  9. Gosh dang that bike is just totally killer. I want to get into biking, but in LA it's a little scary with so little regard for bikers in general in this city. Still, I have tons of bike sites saved for the day I finally get over it, now I have a new one added to the list!

  15. During one of my pregnancies I flipped my wheel to free for it to be a little easier on my body. It was absolutely terrifying! I hated only relying on the brakes to stop. I love my fixed more than anything. But, that being said all my bikes are pretty darn special.
I hope those wheels don't stay white too long ;)

  16. Really beautiful bicycle. Fixies are the best. There's a little club in my city where we all meet up around town and go for rides through the parklands and whatnot.

  18. Nice that it is a fixed gear bike! I ride one too and it's really fun.
By the way this is the first time i leave a reaction behind... Uhm i thought it is a scary thing. However when a bike post comes around ( i love cycling!) i am pretty confident to react on it. :)

  19. Funny story. Up until about 2 weeks ago I was working at Sucre here in New Orleans. I used to get calls for State Bicycles all. the. time. because their personalized number is only 1 number different from ours. People used to launch into super complicated questions about bicycles and would have to apologize and explain that we sold macarons, not fixed gears. Oops!

Also. Your bike is beautiful. I love the gold finish on the rims! It looks so fancy.

  21. Beautiful bike! I'm still struggling to learn to ride mine (a cheap kids bike bc alas I am short), but I am so determined by the end of this summer to be able to cruise from point A to point B without falling and someday, eventually invest in a pretty bicycle :)

I tried biking on a similar bike (not that beautiful tho), but could not get over the butt pain and other not to specify areas'. Had to give it up:-(.
