the scotch tape method - The Dainty Squid

the scotch tape method

Tuesday, February 04, 2014

These last few weeks I've been experimenting with using scotch tape as a way to decorate my nails. Sounds tacky, uh yeah just doing my nails with scotch tape, but the results are way cool and it's super easy. Even better than that, it's quick! In under twenty minutes you'll have a manicure that looks like it took hours + a way steadier hand than anyone really has.
All you need to do is paint the nail polish on the tape and leave to dry. Once it's thoroughly dry, cut the tape into whatever shape your heart desires, and apply to your nail. Seal it in with a top coat, and you're all set!
A few tips to get you started...
◦  Paint the tape before you paint your nails this way the tape has a chance to dry a little bit longer than your nails.
◦  Make sure your nails are completely dry before applying the tape, or before cutting the tape for that matter. You wouldn't want to smudge them.
◦  As long as everything is dry before you get started the tape is easily removable if you decide halfway through your manicure you're not in love with the direction you were heading.
◦  I always recommend Seche Vite as a top coat. It dries quickly and I've yet to have any issues with the tape peeling up from underneath it.
◦  Sometimes the small pieces of tape are really hard to place using just your fingers, try tweezers.
When you're ready to remove it, the tape easily comes off with nail polish remover just like your polish.

If you have any questions, just shoot! Have fun!
xoxo

  3. I always wondered how you got the clean lines. I thought you were putting the tape right on your nails, like painters tape, and then removing it. This makes so much sense, thanks for sharing!

    1. Oh, sometimes I do that! Just not with this kind of nail design where I'm making shapes. But for clean lines that what I do.

  7. I've seen this idea before, but I've never tried it. I think it would actually be perfect for me because I hate waiting for a second coat of polish to dry. This way I can get all the drying except for the top coat done at the same time.

  29. have you tried the sandwich bag method? If you paint a design with polish on a plastic bag, let it dry, then peel it off with tweezers and lay in on your nail, topcoat. Homemade nail wraps :)
