beach cruisin' - The Dainty Squid

beach cruisin'

Thursday, February 27, 2014

One of the things that made me really nervous about moving to the city was leaving behind all the beaches and parks I used to frequent. My former residence was five or six minutes from the beach and a park. The beach was my refuge. I spent so much time there over the summer hunting for beach glass, reading under my umbrella and just enjoying the fresh air.

Come to find out, my new place is an eight minute drive from my all time favorite glass hunting beach. I'm just a hop, skip, and a jump away from SO many other beaches as well. I'm not sure about the park situation. I mean I know there are a bunch around, I just haven't gotten around to checking them out yet since I've been cruising the beach scene. I know these beaches will fill up during the warmer weather but they sure are peaceful this time of the year.
Despite the icy conditions I've even managed to find quite a nice little collection of beach glass. My favorite two pieces I've collected this week are definitely this large green piece that says "to be" and what is now the largest piece of red in my entire collection.
I'm really excited to watch these beaches come alive as the snow melts.

  1. The scenic viewer in the first photo looks like it's gasping, haha! These shots are stunning, and man, that sea glass is amazing! It's so cool that you found a piece of delftware--that little blue and white piece--or something like it. :)

  3. What a cool environment with all those beaches! In The Netherlands I live 20 minutes by car from the beach. In Singapore I hardly ever go to the beach.

  5. Hey there. I used to live in Lakewood and now I'm in Rocky River which is just over the bridge on Detroit. Lakewood is a perfect location. You're by Edgewater Park and Rocky River Park which are both on Lake Erie. There's also a secret little dog beach on the way to Huntington on Lake rd. Dogs can play there off leash without issue. And there is also the Lakewood dog park in the metroparks. Have fun exploring! Nichole

  6. Hi Kayla! I love seeing your snowy beach pics :) Going to the beach in the winter is one of my favourite things! Unfortunately I haven't been able to get out to Point Pelee yet this year. I highly recommend it as one of the most beautiful places in the winter, and the deer and raccoons are easier to see:) Can't wait for the new hair!! xo

  7. When I see most of your pictures I find hard to believe that you actually live in the US. When I (brazillian) think about US, I almost every time picture in my head spaces filled with crowd and advertisement an traffic. What a stupid way of thinking, isnt't it?
I feel, in your pictures, that you live in a beautifully isolated place, and I always want to get to know it.
