This is one of my attempts at wearing jeans and feeling like I actually took time to put myself together. Like I mentioned in a previous outfit post when I wear jeans I feel kind of lazy and not put together. I should clarify that I don't think jeans look lazy, I'm totally jealous how great some people can put together a killer outfit with jeans. But it's just not me. Jeans for me are for hiking, some lazy nights grocery shopping and reeeeeeal cold days.

I realized my issue was I didn't have any great tops. I have tons of awesome shirts, but they're ones I have to tuck in to something. I have a slightly longer than average torso and a preference for longish shirts so finding ones that are long enough for me is kind of a pain. This sweatshirt is purrrrfect! (sorry, I had to!), the length is exactly what I was looking for. It's adorable and I'm able to add even more cuteness with a button up shirt underneath. I don't know, this might be old news for most people who know how to dress themselves. Buuut I'm stoked with this start to wearing jeans more often and feeling good about it.

Hope you're having a great Thursday.

Scratch & TDS collab : nail wraps!!

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

I have got something so exciting to share with you all today! A little while back I was contacted by Chelsea of Scratch. Scratch was born out of the simple idea that nail wraps are really cool but most of the designs currently out there are not. She asked if I would design some nail wraps. Of course I happily obliged because that's totally the coolest thing ever. I'm so happy I can finally post about this now and I'm even more excited to finally see the photos from the lookbook! Aren't they beautiful?
Inspired by my love of geometric shapes, bold lines and monochromatic color schemes I came up with three designs Top O' The Mountain To Ya, (You've Got A) Spring In Your Step, and Sea Ya Later. They're available only through kickstarter. If you're one of the first 150 people to purchase you can snag the whole collection for only $25.

Pretty darn awesome right?! I'm thoroughly stoked.

I've got my fingers crossed this is the last outfit I shoot for a long long time with a snowy background. I mean, it's pretty and all but I'm ready to not have to rush because it's so cold. I think Elycia and I are looking quite prepared for spring with our outfits, not that Elycia and I ever really shy away from bright colors but these ensembles seem especially appropriate for spring. I think my dress is  pretty spring like, I actually like it even better without a cardigan! That wasn't really an option last weekend but hopefully it will be soon.

Have a fabulous day!

photo an hour : March 16th, 2013

Monday, March 25, 2013

Three months down for this year in my photo an hour goal! This month I'm sharing another normal day spent with my best friend, Elycia, from when she came out last weekend.

7 am // woke up to snow after having some really spring like weather the previous week.
8 am // preparing some cinnamon buns for Sunday's breakfast. Squid supervised me to make sure I was following the recipe correctly.
9 am // getting ready for guests to arrive!
10 am // a quick paint job with my two new favorite colors.
essie mint candy apple & butler please.
11 am // answered some emails and started a new book.
12 pm // steaming my dress for the day.
1 pm // Elycia stylin' and profilin'!
2 pm // we headed to the park to take some outfit pictures in the snow.
3 pm // lunch at Melt, of course!
4 pm // aaand it's a given, if we're near a photobooth we must stop!
5 pm // we went to the movies to see The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
As long time readers may recall I'm a HUGE Jim Carrey fan. Plus I love Steve Buscemi! The movie was pretty funny.

7 pm // finally leaving the theater.

After the movie we headed home, ate leftovers, watched RuPaul's Drag Race and crashed early! Pretty great day if I do say so myself.

Supplies used...
Essie Mint Candy Apple
Essie Butler Please
Seche Vite as a top coat
Dotting tool

Mint Candy Apple has to be the most perfect mint color I own and believe me, I own a lot of them. I have a hard time resisting picking up new shades of mint polish. But I'm almost always let down as they're normally quite streaky and take a multiple coats to look acceptable. This one is different though, it's perfect in two coats. Plus it's Essie so it dries quickly and lasts a fairly long time with a top coat! It's safe to say you'll be seeing it a lot in the future.
Hope you have a lovely Sunday!

This is what we wore on St. Patricks Day. Looks like Elycia needs pinched for not wearing green (which I totally forgot is even a thing! Guess I'll have to pinch her another day) I wore a green dress in hopes of getting a discount somewhere (anywhere!) we went. That didn't happen. It was worth a shot though. What did happen was an incredible lunch at Melt where we didn't even have to wait for a table (there is always at least a half hour wait!), silly photobooth pictures in the mall and me maybe kind of getting beat at air hockey...twice. It was pure luck though. Don't go thinking she's better at air hockey than me. Haha.

I'll end this post with two silly pictures. The first of which looks like it was taken at a portrait studio and the second in front of a green screen. Haha! We might have been having a bit of a hard time remaining serious that day... not that that is out of the ordinary.
Hope you have a lovely day!

Spring is here!

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

It's the first day of Spring... not that you'd ever be able to tell by the weather right now though. It's snowing ever so lightly as I type. Hopefully it'll warm up soon and we'll have more than two days in a row that are sunny. I made a little list of things I'd like to accomplish this Spring, just some little goals.
Spring Goals 2013!
Press lots of flowers. This would be a year round goal if it were possible but it's sadly not. Plant pressing is kind of a habit you have to get into doing since it's pretty easy to just over look all the neat things you could press. So here's to getting back into the swing of it. I'm so excited to start seeing flowers and plants growing again!

Practice macro photography. I go through spurts with macro photography, I'll be really into it for a while then completely forget about it. Expect to see lots of bugs, flowers and crazy close ups soon.

Take more photos of daily life. Sometimes I forget to take pictures of the little things - treats I've baked, the cats lounging, really great mail days, etc. I want to be able to look back at more of those things.

Drive as often as possible. I've gotta keep practicing! As much as I'm really enjoying learning it's easy for me to forget that I can drive instead of just letting someone drive me. I'm certainly not getting any practice from sitting in the passenger seat.

Start taking daily walks. With the weather finally warming up...or uh, as it should be soon I really want to start taking those daily walks I put on my New Years goal list.

Read outside on warm days. I have a nice, cozy chair outside and a deck that gets lots of sunshine. I have no excuse not to soak up some vitamin d and read at least a few times.

Get the family together for an evening at the park. Last year before my oldest brother and his family moved to Germany we all got together at the park near my house, had pizza and played. It was a blast. It needs to be done again.
Here's to a great new season!! What are some of your goals for Spring?

film

almost spring : on film

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

It's not quite spring yet (tomorrow is though!) but last week we had some reeeeal nice weather here in Ohio. Sweatshirt weather! It was so great. I can't to be able to go outside without having to wear layers upon layers again. Anyway, I spent this beautiful day with my parents hiking around Pymatuning State Park. I shot a few rolls with my pentax k1000 and I'm just in love with what I captured. I feel like these photos accurately portray what this time of the year feels like to me.
As well as experimenting to get to know my new camera better, I shot with a different film than normal. I used Kodak Ultramax 400ISO. I'm pretty impressed with the results. The colors are just perfect. I think I finally found my film of choice!

Hope you're having a lovely Tuesday!
