Lake Erie, you icy beach. - The Dainty Squid

Lake Erie, you icy beach.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Every winter I write a handful of blog posts about how much I love the beach in the winter. They're basically all the same. This year, I'm sure, will be no different. It's like it always takes me by surprise how wonderful it is completely desolate. This place that's teeming with people during the summer all of sudden is ignored when the weather cools off. It snowed a bit on the day these were taken but it really wasn't that cold out so I was fairly surprised to find the rocks covered in ice. It was gorgeous.

I even managed to find some beach glass and some trash to arrange. It's been quite a while since I last gathered trash on the beach to photograph then throw away. The last time was in April. Aren't those photos so pretty?! I'm happy to report my beach seems to be a lot cleaner than it was the last few years!

I'm definitely looking forward to the beach freezing, that's one of my favorite sights. Anything that makes winter a little more tolerable is a good thing in my book!

I'd rather there not be any beach trash but at least there wasn't as much as in your April photos! That was a lot!!

  8. Might be the same as every year, but the photos are still gorgeous! I love the way the ice forms on beaches, and how it's constantly changing until the body of water freezes over.

  13. Man, these are gorgeous pictures! They make me cold just looking at them (I'm currently snuggled in bed hiding from the blizzard outside) but they are stunning. Also, I love your trash collection photo! Such a great idea.

  15. The beach looks incredible! It must get seriously cold for you, for it to be freezing by the sea! That's really rare in Britain. The beach finds are weird. I am so confused by the things people throw away. And what's with all the combs? Who even uses combs anyway, they always break? I think you could do an art gallery exhibition of all your beach find photos.

    1. I KNOW! I find SO many combs and I can't help but wonder who thought it was a good idea to bring a comb to the beach.

  19. I really wanted to visit Lake Michigan when I was in Illinois for my friends' wedding, but I got carsick and opted out of traveling beachside. Looking at your photos, I'm totally regretting this now. It's such a beautiful, icy wonderland!

  20. The photographs of the ice are incredible. I can't wait to see more beach pictures as the winter progresses. Also, hooray for diminishing trash levels - even though it's fun to find weird things in the sand, it makes me sad to think of how that stuff affects marine life.
