Here's a look back July 22nd through my lens. Be warned - there are lots of puppy pictures! It wasn't a particularly interesting day but it's an honest look back nonetheless. It was my fourth day of puppy life so my day was (still is) very much revolving around getting this little dude acquainted, comfortable and trained.

6am // Up early so I could get some things done before the puppy woke up. I spied some pretty little mushrooms from the window and had to go out to investigate.
7am // Daily mug of chocolate milk and kisses from Doctor Octopus
8am // "Mawm, pwease don't make me walk in da wet gwass"
After surviving the wet grass, Klaus and I came up onto the deck to find Lloyd relaxing.
9am // Puppy nap time means photo editing time for me.
10am // Learning to climb the deck stairs. He goes potty in the yard and immediately darts over to the steps to head to the patio door. (PS. You can see a little video of him climbing the steps here)
11am // Playtime!
12pm // When Klaus fell asleep I decided to sneak out to pick up a few things for him.
1pm // I stopped at Petco to pick him a new toy, some training treats and tag for his collar.
2pm // Carl on the deck, hiding out under a chair to protect himself from the wild puppy who loves kitty tails.
3pm // A snoozing kitty!
4pm // I can tell Klaus is getting sleepy when he brings his toy over and sits down in my lap. It's the sweetest.
5pm // Dinner from Aladdin's eatery. Yum!
6pm // Another snoozing kitty.
7pm // My beautiful chicks and hens and a curious pup.
This is my twentieth month of doing photo an hour in a row. So close to two years! It's a blast to look back at the older ones. I hope I can keep it up for many months to come.

I was curious what last July's PAH (can I shorten it to that? I'm going to because I'm kind of tired of typing it out) looked like so I went cruising the photo an hour tag to see. It was one of my favorite days! Elycia was out for the weekend, we spent the whole time working on my all time favorite video, lounging at the beach and thrifting. I need a repeat of that day ASAP, except this time plus a baby and a puppy.

Hope you're having a lovely day!
xoxo

  3. So many comments in my head... those mushrooms are awesome; Klaus is so stinken adorable, holy cow I love that video of him on the stairs; and I have a succulent and I don't know what to do with it! HELP. How often do you water them and what kind of soil do you transplant them into? I've had it for a while, and it's just been sittin there, I don't want to kill it, haha.

    1. I water mine once a month or so - whenever the soil is super dry. I use cactus soil, they have it at WalMart, Home Depot and stores like that.

  11. Aw, his poor little legs trying to climb those stairs! In another three months he'll be taking them three at a time, haha. Our puppy started out nervous about wet grass too, now he loves going out when it's raining. He trots over a dry spot under our giant Shrubs of Doom and just lays there, listening to the rain. It's the sweetest thing.

He is a cutie! Puppies are just the best.

  12. Oh, and a question - is he picking up potty training pretty fast? We got our puppy at four-and-a-half months, and he pretty much potty-trained himself. I was so surprised that he picked it up that fast; my friends who have ogtten puppies have spent MONTHS trying to get them to stop having accidents, and we never had any!

I DID have to come home for lunch for the first couple of months we had him, since he couldn't hold it that long, but he never had an accident in the house - after the first time he went outside, he figured that was the best place and only ever wanted to go there.

    1. Yeah, he's only had a two or three accidents - all of which were kind of my fault and before we had established a schedule (so within the first three days) But now things are going super smoothly.

      Did you crate train?

    2. Oh, sorry, I hadn't realized you had answered this, haha. My apologies! I need to remember to have it e-mail me replies.

We did, yeah. He's got a pretty big crate, bigger than they actually suggest for his size because at the time we thought he'd get bigger than he did. He loves sleeping there at night, but he doesn't really like it that much otherwise. I don't blame him; I don't exactly want to lay around bed all day, either :) I crate him during the day at work, from roughly 8 AM to 5:30 PM. We're experimenting with leaving him longer and longer times just out in the house while we're gone, with the idea that in a few months we can just leave him all day. I'd prefer to only crate him at night, and even that's mostly to make sure he doesn't wake us up at night, haha.

I usually put him outside about 20 minutes before I have to leave (after he's eaten and everything), and then crate him (with his two Nylabones to chew on - he's a chewer and he tears up the towels we've laid down for blankets otherwise), then when I come home around 5:30 he usually still eats and drinks a little water before he even needs to go outside. The advice I read was that they can be left without fear of accident about one hour for every month old they are, until they hit about 8 months and then you should be fine for during-the-day.

  15. Hi Kaylah, you are such a good photographer, soo cool, love your photos.
A little request, hope you don't mind, could you make "a day in the life of Klaus" photo shoot? Him waking up, bugging Carl, following mom around and so on, would be crazy awesome!

    1. Hey thanks!
Maybe when he gets a little older, right now I think that might be kind of boring since he does A LOT of sleeping. But thanks for the suggestion.
