Double Diamond Deer Ranch // on film

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

On our family trip to Cook Forest we stopped in at Double Diamond Deer Ranch. I kind of insisted we all go. I visited back in 2011, it's still one of my favorite memories. I talk about that place all. the. time. This time I came a bit more prepared - with lots of film. I took so many pictures. I think I even managed to not cry this time while getting my hands licked, even though it still touched my heart just as much. The deer are all so beautiful, this first girl below was my favorite. I also really enjoyed petting the buck's antlers, I always forget how warm and fuzzy they are. It's so amazing to be able to get this close to deer.
When we went in the woman behind the counter told us that at 6pm we could back to feed the deer. It sounded cute but I didn't really have high expectations. We watched as all the kids passed around a bottle and fed the fawns. After that they provided everyone with apple slices to feed the adults. You'd presume at a place like this you'd have to purchase the snacks to feed the animals but not here. They were very generous with the apple slices too, giving everyone lots! It was such an amazing experience to be able to feed the deer right from your palm. They were incredibly gentle. It was so much fun.

I left Double Diamond Deer Ranch with an even better opinion than I had of it before. I will most definitely visit anytime I'm in the area. It's seriously one of my favorite places ever.
xoxo
