Birthday Wishlist - The Dainty Squid

Birthday Wishlist

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

My birthday is a little over a week and a half away! August 2nd! And I'm excited. Every year it sneaks up a little bit quicker which I'm not quite sure how to feel about. But I really do love my birthday. Here are some things I'm hoping the birthday cat (kind of like easter bunny, ya know?) brings me...
1 // An articulated skeleton of any kind would probably have me jumping up and down, but I'd definitely have to say a cat is at the top of my list! This one is $900. Eeep! Don't think I should count on getting that any time soon. Haha!
2 // Bath bombs (or just about anything) from Lush. Those are my three favorites - Sex Bomb, Dragon's Egg and Sakura. I always down to try new things from Lush though!
3 // I've been trying really hard not to aquire shoes I won't wear often but I can already see these ones being in heavy rotation in my wardrobe. I have a few other pairs of blue and brown shoes and they surprisingly match a lot of things!
4 // Charles Bukowski books, please and thank you. It's always fun to find a new author you want to read everything by, especially when you're able to tell with only one of their books read. So Women aside, give me all the Bukowski!! I just want to pause time, sit down with a big glass of chocolate milk and devour his books.
5 // I'm slowly but surely building my collection of Kin Ship Goods goodies. (I'm actually wearing this shirt as I type this!) But this sweatshirt is one I don't own yet.
6 // All things banana scented and flavored, particularly banana pocky (I can't find any around me and I need to try it!) and banana lip balm. But seriously, I love all things banana. My life consists of seeing yellow things and always being disappointed that they're lemon scented or flavored instead of banana.
7 // Still crazy about these sunglasses from BonLook!
8 // I'm a girl who can never have too many tooth rings and I've been drooling over this one for some time. It's just so pretty.
9 // The one thing I keep thinking when asked what I want for my birthday is medical models, except it's hard to tell someone that without them thinking you're some kind of jerk asking for expensive weird things. Two things though - One, I'm really not picky about medical models. Give me an ear, an eye, a hand, I don't care!  Two, I know there are some out there waiting to be discovered at a really great price, like at a thrift store, estate sale, rummage sale, or in someone's attic! Come to me beautiful old medical models! The one shown above is from Anatomy Warehouse and is priced at $159. Ehhh.
10 // This shirt from Stay Home Club.

Also macarons, lots of macarons! Please.
xoxo

    1. Are you serious?! I think I might scream if I found one at a thrift store. I mean I know they're out there but I've never seen one, I've seen lots of online pals find them at thrift store. I think that would be my ultimate thrift find.

  10. Hi! I'm new to your blog, but subscribed already. =)

Have to say those Modcloth shoes also catched my eye and I almost bought it. They're lovely! I like the t-shirt as well, but actually apart from the skeletons and medical models I think I'd love to try everything. =)

  14. Your birthday list is full of awesomeness and I hope the birthday cat brings you something great! I love the articulated skeleton. I reeeeeally want to learn how to do that (and taxidermy too!), so that someday when my kitties pass I can articulate their skeletons to have forever.

    1. You think you could process your own kitties? I definitely want to do something with my cats when they pass (which hopefully isn't for a LOOOOONG time) but I don't think I could do whatever I decide myself. Geez, I can't even stand it when they sleep in one position for too long. I'm constantly checking on them and poking them awake to make sure they're okay. Haha!

I do know a little bit about taxidermy though. I made a taxidermy rat a few months back. It is literally some of the worst taxidermy I have ever seen - but hey, I did it!

    2. That's so awesome about the rat! You've gotta start somewhere right?! I'd love to see photos! Congrats!

I haven't done any taxidermy yet myself, but I've been studying up on it a bit. Do you have any tips or resources you'd recommend for learning?

As far as my kitties go, I'd love to be able to do something with them myself, but only if I feel capable-I definitely don't want to shame them! Haha! They're still fairly young so I'm hoping that over the years I can get comfortable with the process and feel confident in my abilities. If not, I'll definitely have someone else do it. I don't think I could be satisfied visiting them at a pet cemetery :(

  19. Ahh great list. I read Post Office a few years back. It's good, it's real good. He really makes you not want to become a mail man/lady.
Those shoes are killer too! I have a similar pair that go well with quite a few outfits.

    Happy almost-birthday!

  23. Working in a science department is cool as we have lots of pinned specimens and preserved things. I think we also have an articulated rabbit and a few cat skulls. Oh, would you like some english bees to pin? I'm finding quite a few these days, most in very good condition.
