A new office... - The Dainty Squid

A new office...

Thursday, July 25, 2013

Recently I made a small move. I traded my office with my bedroom. The main reason being my bedroom has much better lighting. I get headaches often (like two or three times a week minimum) and I know some of that has to do with the lighting situations I put myself in. If it's day time I rarely have the lights in the house on and in my old office that meant the room would be kind of dark. So then there's me straining to see things and work with the light off because c'mon, it's daytime why do the lights need to be on? I'm amazed at how much brighter my old bedroom, now office, is. It's wonderful. I am absolutely loving it.
Another good thing about moving the rooms around is I like change. I like switching things up, rearranging and just generally having some house project to work on (not that there aren't forty other things I could be doing.) The only thing that even made me question switching the rooms was the giant magnetic chalkboard I recently made for my office. It's part of the wall so it's not like I can bring it over to the new room. Although, I must admit, it makes a pretty sweet headboard so it's not a total loss. But I'll save that for another post another day.

It's really beginning to take shape in here. I grabbed an old desk out of the basement to use as a temporary desk until I can find a new one that's perfect for in here. My old desk too big and clunky for in here. Not to mention it was L shaped and a right side L instead of a left side L like I'd need for this room. The desk simply wouldn't work in here so it was a good excuse to get rid of it and hunt for something new.

I'm still very much in the process of finding a place for everything and figuring out what I need and what I can get rid of. It felt so good to empty draws full of random papers and things I'd been hanging on to just because it was easier to shove them somewhere than sort through them. This room will be cleaner, and have less stuff stashed away in cubbies and drawers. Since the room is still in the works I thought it would be fun just to share some peeks...

Can't wait to get this room looking more like a productive place to work instead of the mess it is now. I'll be sure to share more pictures that actually show what it looks like as soon as I get it organized.
xoxo

  3. Dude, your comment about the chalk headboard being for another post took me WAY back to Hammy Hamster AKA Once Upon a Hamster AKA Tales of the Riverbank, a show produced in the 60's, then redone in the 70's, then produced AGAIN in the 90's, in which live animals (hamsters, guinea pigs, turtles etc) were videotaped in a miniature set, and dubbed over with an old man's soothing voice providing voices for them all. It was amazing. Here's the first episode, and I'm sorry that this amazing blast from my childhood may totally derail anything productive you were going to do for an hour or two (not sorry).

    1. Oh my gosh! That was ridiculous. I don't even know what to say about it.

Was it Canadian show? I definitely didn't watch that growing up and I think we're around the same age.

  4. How do you keep plants with so many cats?
We have four cats and I would love to keep some plants but I'm scared that they would eat them. (I don't care if they ate ones that were okay for them, but most plants aren't and I don't want them sick!)

    1. My cats have no interest in plants. Sometimes they sniff them but *knock on wood* have never ever bothered them.

  6. I love that post-it on your keyboard ;)
Things look great though! I think I finally got my desk 'in order'; I switched from a big L-shaped one to a rectangular one that's half the size... really makes you reconsider how much stuff you keep around!

  21. Lighting is super important! I need to change the lighting in my bathroom, it's awful! The bedroom has great lighting so I call the mirror in there the "nice mirror" and the mirror in the bathroom is the "truth mirror".

  23. This is something I'm really wanting to do at the moment! More of actually have an office space in my room because if I'm ever doing college work at home I sit in my bed and I don't feel very productive doing it. Also I need somewhere that I can show of my inspiration so I think if I made the space for a desk, I would make space for an inspiration board.

  30. This post made me take a look back through every single post you've done about your craft spaces. WOW! They've changed so much! I was looking at your basement craft room and it's funny to see the changes... fabric, buttons and zippers everywhere.. now you have racks of clothes, purses, nail polish, shoes! It makes me think about my studio. Right now, it's filled with fabric, sewing supplies and an insane amount of Halloween decor! (because, you know, Halloween 365 and all..) :) ..but it makes me wonder what my studio will look like in 2 or 3 years and will I even be doing the same thing I am now? When I get heavy into my sewing projects, I can't really imagine myself doing anything else! But then I think back a few years ago when I didn't even know how to sew and it's crazy to see how far I've come in such a short time. Anyway, random thoughts! :) Your spaces always look fantastic and anything but ordinary!!! Love seeing them!! :)
