Buffalo Museum of Science! - The Dainty Squid

Buffalo Museum of Science!

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

While in Niagara Falls on the US side we kind of ran out of things to do. I almost feel guilty saying that. I'm sure there are a ton of things to do in the area but we visited all the museums we thought sounded interesting, we got our fill of Indian food and we saw the falls. Then we spotted a flyer for the Buffalo Museum of Science. They currently have the Body Worlds exhibit so it was a no-brainer I wanted to go.

Body Worlds was excellent! If you're anywhere in the area, go visit! The human body is truly incredible. Photographs aren't allowed in that exhibit but I did get lots of photographs of the rest of the museum. My favorite part of any natural history museum is easily the taxidermy and the beautiful little scenes they set up. Being a full time blogger is a pretty great job but honestly, I think working with a museum and helping arrange dioramas would be my ultimate dream job. Here are some of my favorite animals from the museum...
Hope you're having a lovely Tuesday!
xoxo

  1. I'm totally with you. But it's also fun to just take pictures of all the setups like you did here. I went to London and Chicago and did the same :)!

  2. I love these type of museums! It's a win-win situation, if it's a great museum it's an interesting visit, if it's a not-so-great museum the visit is hilarious!

  3. We went through Buffalo in 2010 when we went to USA for a holiday (from New Zealand). But it was just really a short stop before we headed over to the Canadian side of the falls, so we didn't get to explore Buffalo at all. This museum looks awesome! Amazing photos, as usual! :)

  4. I've seen body worlds twice, and both times they had different stuff! Did you get to see the camel? That blew my mind. And the rooster's veins?

  8. Oh my goodness, ever since I was a little girl I've dreamed about becoming a museum diorama designer! I loved the idea of creating the detailed scenes and to be able to actually touch history or at least pieces of it ~ it gives me goosebumps (weird, yet true, lol). Your pics from the Buffalo Museum are terrific!

  14. Not sure if you know it, but there's an amazing book about taxidermy. It's especially the photographs in the book which make it such a wonderful book to have. It's - coincidentally - called the same and by Alexis Turner. Should normally be the first hit you get at Amazon. I really recommend it!

I think these type of musea give such a special vibe.

  20. I'm a museum designer and I have to say, it's a pretty sweet gig! I work at a local history museum rather than a natural history, but we design all of our own exhibits and I love it. It's a little daunting at first, but I enjoy making it just right and including tons of details.

  22. I would love to work on a museum. I've been a volunteer on the European Night of Researchers in the city of my university, and I helped on the natural museum. It was so awesome to tell to the people what animal was that what he did. :D But doing dioramas, would be the ultimate great job
