succulent city

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

I've kind of been going plant crazy lately. It's still a little early for me to start planting things outside but a sudden surge in my confidence in my succulent keeping skills has be going nuts and I'm filling my house with them. They've invaded every sunny corner of my home. I couldn't be more pleased with how they look either. It's amazing how much happiness growing things can bring.
These photos were taken between April 17th and 18th and since then I've added tons more all around my house (which I'm sure I'll share pictures of soon enough) and I've already noticed lots of growth which is super encouraging. I'm great at growing beautiful flowers outside but I've never really had much luck with succulents. In the past I've had a tendency to over water (hence why the outside ones do so well) and put them in places that don't get enough light. Fingers crossed the growth continues and these beauties last a long long time!

    1. Nope, they normally only want to sniff them at first to figure out what they are and then they're over it and never bother them. Guess I lucked out with cats who'd rather get into plastic bags than eat plants. :P

  9. I love suculents! This year my bigs ones that are already on the garden outside, are dealing with a huge problem: snails! As it has rain like dogs, it's been a real mess. Only today I fill a plastic bag with snails.
I love the ones from the third and tenth photo. Did you buy them on a local store or online?

    1. Really?! That's super neat. (Guess I only think it's neat because we really dont have an abundance of snails here so they never ever bother my plants)

      I buy them locally.

  13. That looks great! I've been wanting to try my hand at growing succulents. I don't so well with regular house plants.

At my husband's college they have a great nursery. It's too bad that we are more than 400 miles away. Maybe next time we're in So Cal I'll be able to buy some succulents and get some color into our house.

  16. your succulents look so beautiful! the problems you've had may be because you are mixing succulents and cactus. I am not a big expert but have both at home and for my experience they have different water needs.
    hope this helps!!!

  20. I went through a huge succulents phase when I was in high school, and for some odd reason (i'm horrid with living things) they thrived! I tried again a couple years ago, and they just weren't as robust as my old ones:( Yours are darling!

  28. I have so many planters ready and waiting at my new apartment to house succulents, perfect time to get this post in my feed! Where do you buy your succulents? I checked out the usual home depot and canadian tyre, who just had a few sad cacti, nothing as exciting as you've potted.

    1. Usually Home Depot and Lowes. Not all of them have the same things either! If you haven't checked Home Depot in a while perhaps you could check now because mine just seemed to get a TON of succulents recently.

  30. Ooooh, I love your little succulent gardens! I also grow succulents but always forget to water them because my house doesn't have any windows that get direct sunlight. >_< I'm sure yours will do great though and I love that you picked out a variety!

  31. I LOVE that finger/coral looking one in the corner. Do you happen to know the name?

  32. I really only ever grow succulents and occasionally veggies but only with some kind of water reservoir so I can't kill them. Indoor succulents are strangely more difficult though. Good luck good luck!

  33. I love succulents. It's the only plant I can sort of keep alive! Do you have to use a special soil for these? I want to eventually get a bunch and put them in a planter too, but I don't know where to start!

    1. I use succulent mix. I can't think exactly what it's called off the top of my head but they sell it at Lowes, Home Depot and even Walmart. It has some cacti on the package.

  38. Just gorgeous! My first job was at a plant nursery and I have been in love with them ever since, although I have yet to purchase any succulents. I have many indoor plants, though, and they make me supremely happy. I only wish to have my own yard so I can do some real gardening in the near future! Next up: herb garden for my balcony.
