my first...CAR!

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

Oh my, what's this?
I've kind of been hinting around on here, and if you follow me on instagram you already know, but I bought my first car a few weeks back!! It's a shiny, new (to me, obviously) 2006 Volkswagen Golf GTI.
I still only have my permit. But I felt like the next step in this process was to buy a car. I had been looking not so seriously since before I got my permit but never was in any rush and never really saw anything I seriously considered. I was looking at hearses, and old Volkswagens of just about all kinds. But everything had something wrong with it, I guess it comes with the territory when you're all about cars that are at least 10 years old. Then one day as I was browsing craigslist I found it...

It was love at first sight! The previous owner had moved to New York and no longer needed a car so his mom was selling it for him. She had a bunch of stuff done to the car before listing it and it has a super clean interior which was seriously one of my biggest concerns! Other people's germs, ick! We contacted the woman immediately and made a date to go see it right away.

Buying a car was a lot like my experience with buying a house (kind of funny how I seem to be doing things backwards) - you find something you like, you go see and you have to jump right then if you want it. There's no stopping to think about it. After it's all been said and done for a few weeks now I'm positive this was the best decision ever.

I've been driving it every chance I get, making all kind of excuses to go places. I look forward to finally getting my license and being able to drive alone. I'm already planning lots of day trips and solo adventures. This makes the process of getting my license feel so much more real and attainable. I'm still glad I waited until I was ready to get my license but I already feel like "holy cow, what have I been doing my whole life without this car?!" I've got the feeling this is the beginning of a really great friendship.
Here's to lots of great times with my first car!!
xoxo

  7. Beautiful! I sold my first car a year ago because I moved to a place where having a car was just completely unneccessary. I didn't pick the car myself, my parents chose it and gave it to me as a complete surprise. It was a very, very, very old bright green Corsa and I thought that my parents had never ever chosen a present that suited me better! It will always be the best present I've ever been given. Enjoy your first car. It will always be the most special car to you <3

  12. Congrats ^^ So glad for you ^^
And I'm also really glad to see your life growing like this, and to be kind of part or be able to share this joy of yours ^^ I know we never met or talked, but it kinda feels like I'm a distant friend to whom you send letters to, talking about your life and news (but ofc, I'm not the only one following you, and it's really just a silly feeling that I get eheh). But that's one of the things I like so much when following blogs eheh
    Enjoy it :D xoxo

  15. Kaylah, I'm so happy for you!! I also got my first car last year, and the process was just so fast and unexpected, that when I first jumped on it, I could not believe it was me driving it. Now I love my car as I would love a friend which will take me to great places. Will you name it?
I sound kinda crazy, hahah, but I know you know what I mean :D

    1. Haha, yep, I know exactly what you mean. We'll be heading to the grocery store and I'll just be like "Oh, wow, I'm driving, this is weird because it so natural already!".

I definitely plan on naming my car. I still back and forth between a few names though. Just gotta make sure it's the perfect one.

  28. LOVE it! My first car was a 2000 plate VW Polo in bright red.. it was only a little 1ltr engine but I loved her. So much that when I had to upgrade last year, I got a brand new VW Polo, 2012 plate, in bright red <3 VWs are so reliable! Enjoy your new found freedom!

  30. Congrats, that's a lovely car! I got my license last year, right after I turned 23, so I too am one of those people that don't get their license the minute they're old enough to be able to get it... And I felt just like you - thinking of where I want to go just for the sake of driving :) I don't officially have my own car yet, so I can't wait to buy it. But the first car my mom bought when she got her license (a long time ago!) was also a VW Golf :)

I wish you good luck and many fun driving hours with your new car :)
