sugar cookies! - The Dainty Squid

sugar cookies!

Saturday, April 06, 2013

A few weeks back or shoot, it might have even been a few months back I mentioned that I found a really great sugar cookie recipe. Well, I just got some film back with them on it and now I can't get them off my mind! Sugar cookies are may be the one thing I think taste better store bought than homemade. I feel bad admitting that, like nothing store bought should ever be more delicious than homemade but I don't know anyone who can nail sugar cookies.

But when I made these I realized it was totally possible to make perfect ones at home. The recipe I used can be found here on Yummy Mummy Kitchen. The only thing I changed about the recipe was to add 1.5 teaspoons coconut extract, just to give them a little bit more of a coconut taste. (True to Kaylah baking nature! I'll always either add coconut or cinnamon to something. Those are my two favorite flavors when it comes to sweets.) I also only baked them for 5 minutes. I like my sugar cookies melt in your mouth soft and these absolutely were.

I'm super stoked to make these again. I'll finally be able to use all the awesome cookies cutters I've been hoarding away.
cookie cutter sources : tooth. mushroom. the letters and heart were both thrifted.

Hope you're having a lovely weekend! I've got plans with my momma, I can't wait!
xoxo

  4. I totally agree with you on that, Kaylah! Store-bought sugar cookies always seem to have a little extra... they just taste better. However, I'm gonna give that recipe a try here. I have so many cute sugar cookie cuters, like my Pacman cutters for instance, and I really need to make use of them. Thanks for sharing! Your little mushrooms look delicious!
