Lake Erie Beach Trash - The Dainty Squid

Lake Erie Beach Trash

Monday, April 22, 2013

It's that time of the year again, I'm back to picking up beach trash to organize and photograph (then properly dispose of!) It's incredible the stuff the people leave and the stuff that washes up. This year there seems to be a lot less beach trash than normal. That's awesome! I won't lie I kind of miss finding it as readily as I used to because I really enjoy laying it all out like this. But of course it's awesome that people are either littering less or someone else is helping clean up my local beach. Hopefully a mix of both.
(had to get a close up of this dude because he reminded me of a robotic Abe Lincoln. Anyone else see it?)

As well as my big, colorful group picture I took three others - eating utensils, shades of yellow and a collection of combs. It blows my mind how many combs there are at the beach. It's also kind of funny to me how beat up the are.
beach combin'. ha!

Well, I'm off! Hope you have a fabulous day! If the weather is nice wherever you are in the world maybe you could go help clean up some litter, it is Earth Day! ;)
xoxo

  1. Its so funny to think of the reasons some of this stuff made it to the beach. like the fake-seaweed type fish bowl ornament on the bottom rightish of the top photo. Did someone release their fish!?

I love arrangement photos like these

  3. omigosh you are awesome at this!! Every.time.awesome! It takes great skill to actually lay out items in an aesthetically pleasing way (not kidding) so you have skills!
I was actually thinking of you when I was walking the beach this past weekend.. and saw garbage! (again, not kidding.. lol!). You must wash it all to take the picture tho? They all seem so clean... these would be great postcards I think!

  8. It amazes me that you find so many colourful items - our beaches aren't like that, the only rubbish you'd find is a plastic sweet wrapper or tin can.

  10. I love this! Well not the fact that it's litter, of course, but the way you've layed it all out and photographed it. And now I'm thinking of all those sad kids with lost toys, especially the sci-fi Abe Lincoln owner!

I had a friend who used to make jewelry out of beach trash. You should do an art show with all your beach trash photos!

  31. It's fascinating all of the trash that you can find. I would see if you can send this to environmental groups around your area. You take lovely photos that actually can make an impact if people see what's being tossed into the lake.

  39. I found a toy soldier at the beach the other day, but it had fallen out of my pocket before I could show it to my boyfriend who had not come along. I was pretty bummed out about the fact that I had lost my little treasure!

  40. It's so funny, you found a lot of plastic things, most of them from what I see it's from children's toys. Here in Portugal, beaches are normally ful of trash, really: empty cans, or trash from the fishermans tools.
