fungus among us

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

The weather around these parts has been incredible. Days where I cant finally go outside without layers upon layers on. (I even wore a sleeveless dress outside yesterday. YES!) It's great. It also means lots of hiking has been going on. After the snow melts each year it's always fun to watch everything come back to life. Last week while hiking with my parents I photographed a bunch of little patches of fungus and moss. They're so beautiful. Excuse me for being overly enthusiastic about silly little things, but seriously nature is so cool.
I'm really excited for the weather to finally clear up for more than a week at a time (read : no more snow) and for the rainy part of April to arrive. April showers may bring May flowers but they also brings mushrooms. I can't wait!

  14. Those are so neat! A few years back, we had an outbreak of fairy circles in April. There was probably 20 of them around town. I've always loved fungi and really regret not getting any photos of them. Also, have you seen this patch? I ran across it on Etsy and immediately thought of you! It's got a moth, bugs, and teeth on it. https://www.etsy.com/listing/125867409/moth-tooth-patch?ref=shop_home_active

  28. OMG, nature is so cool. I was the one that put up that photo of the veiled lady mushroom on Instagram the other day (BTW, what a beautiful name for a mushroom). I now have a small army of them growing in my front garden. In the morning they are all veiled and by afternoon their veil has disappeared, only to come back again the next morning! Amazes me every time. Way to go nature!
