almost spring : on film - The Dainty Squid

almost spring : on film

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

It's not quite spring yet (tomorrow is though!) but last week we had some reeeeal nice weather here in Ohio. Sweatshirt weather! It was so great. I can't to be able to go outside without having to wear layers upon layers again. Anyway, I spent this beautiful day with my parents hiking around Pymatuning State Park. I shot a few rolls with my pentax k1000 and I'm just in love with what I captured. I feel like these photos accurately portray what this time of the year feels like to me.
As well as experimenting to get to know my new camera better, I shot with a different film than normal. I used Kodak Ultramax 400ISO. I'm pretty impressed with the results. The colors are just perfect. I think I finally found my film of choice!

Hope you're having a lovely Tuesday!
xoxo

    1. It snowed again here too! Ohio weather is a tease. We'll get two or three days of beautiful weather and then it will snow again. Fingers crossed this is the last of the snow.

  7. Great pictures! I, too, enjoy stomping around outside with my boyfriend and my Pentax K1000. You've probably tried this film with your K1000 but in case you haven't, I absolutely loved the way Fuji Superia X-TRA 200 really made my colors look. It's cheap and easy to obtain also. Here's a couple of my shots if you want to see an example - http://www.lomography.com/homes/buttonmunch/albums/1939362-pentax-k1000

Hope you have a great day!

  12. What an awesome place - looks like it's not easy to find on the map therefore so precious and quiet for observing nature and pick up treasures to take them home without asking. If I had a list of places to see in this lifetime, Pymatuning Park would make it to the top of it. Have a great day! X

  20. Beautiful pics! I completely undertand your sentiments about feeling lifted now that spring has arrived - it is truly symbolic and wonderful to release yourself from the layers of clothes and hibernation and feel the warmth of spring on your face! I totally see this in your pictures.

I am a film photographer as well and will definitely have to try your film recommendation. Thanks for sharing!

  23. The Bat Motel is definitely the coolest! My family has had a bat house hung on the side of our detached garage since I can remember but oh my goodness I would be thrilled if we had an entire motel!
