details
belt - thrifted
rings - fox c/o Sea of Bees // black ring via Forever 21
tights - JC Penny (similar pair)
shoes - c/o Oasap

I don't have much to say about this outfit that wouldn't be extremely repetitive of every other one of my outfit posts. Aren't these shoes fabulous? So happy I finally own this beautiful dress, it has such a lovely collar. In love with these tights. etc. But I do have some really exciting to talk about unrelated to the outfit! The girl you're looking at is now permitted to drive, with a licensed driver in the passenger seat of course. I think most of you are familiar with the fact I'm a big fraidy cat who never got her drivers license. It's been on my new year's goal list for two years running and I'm determined to make 2013 my year! On Saturday I finally went up to the BMV and took the test to get my permit. It was kind of scary. The lady behind the counter wasn't very friendly, talked way too fast and just generally left me feeling really uneasy. I sat down at the computer to take the test and bombed the first three questions. I should mention that the ones I missed were kind of unrelated to driving, in my opinion. They were things I saw in the booklet but didn't think to memorize because I honestly didn't think they'd ask me how long I'd have to go to jail for if I got a DUI. Anyway, I passed! One hour and one really bad picture later I got myself a new ID that says I can drive.

Driving still seems really weird to me, it's funny for me to think that all I had to do was pass a test on a computer and I'm allowed out on the road. Sunday we went over to the beach and I got behind the wheel for the first time. I drove around the parking lot and practiced pulling in and out of parking spots. It felt so funny. I couldn't stop laughing. But I definitely feel like in the half an hour I spent behind the wheel I learned a lot and got a lot more comfortable. I'm super stoked to practice more! I'll certainly be keeping you guys up to date on this little adventure. I look forward to conquering all my silly fears and finally being able to go places on my own. Needless to say, I'm also really excited about car shopping!

Hope you have a lovely Tuesday.
xoxo

  3. This outfit could NOT be more perfect to me. Seriously.
Well done on passing your driving test! I am terrified for mine. xx

  4. Congratulations on the license!! As someone currently learning how to drive standard transmission, I totally get it feeling "funny"... It's such a stressful thing to learn, out on the road, with other drivers!! Keep at it, practice a little bit every day, and you'll have it down in no time :)

  5. I was 23 before I got my license and then it was only because I HAD to! I was terrified of driving, but now I actually like it! Go figure huh? ;-)

Congrats of getting over your fears! And it will be scary at first, but I know you can do it!

I think you have to take a grumpy test to work at the DMV, I've never had someone help me there that wasn't cranky.....though one of my driving instructors did bare a striking resemblance to Bobby Ray from Sweet Home Alabama! ;-)

  6. That's so great! I remember how scary first learning to drive was. Just take your time and focus. When I first started learning, my dad never even let me listen to the radio. It was silly, but I was able to focus. I almost screwed up bad a few times, but now I can comfortably drive a stick shift and automatic car with ease, and plenty of distractions.

I'm excited for your first car! Mine was a 1986 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, maroon - it was gorgeous and comfy and so me! I only spent $700 on it, too. It died a few months later, but it was an awesome first car. I'm on my 4th car now... heh.

Anyhow, best of luck! Great job!

  8. Congrats! I definitely know how it goes--I got my permit for the second time last year. I know how to drive abduction am comfortable driving an automatic, but somehow I'm turning 25 and I've never managed to get my license. My partner's car is a manual and I learned the hard way that sets off my anxiety something awful, so practicing has been somewhat postponed.. Best of luck to you, though!

  9. Congratulations! What a big step! The people at the DMV are notoriously unfriendly so you just have to try to avoid going there as much as possible :) I'm actually jealous that you never needed to learn to drive- we have to drive everywhere in Phoenix. Have fun!

  10. Congrats on your new permit :) It is interesting that they didn't have you drive with anyone before giving you the permit. Hopefully people are better drivers where you live (it gets ridiculous down here in the south lol). Anywho, be safe & have a great day ^.^

  11. CONGRATS! You'll definitely love driving a car because at times it feels so meditating to drive around.

  12. Great!

Yeah it is nerve wracking! I remember taking it and thinking that the questions were mad!

Have fun practicing! It gets better and better. Like most things one practices.

What kind of car do you think you'll want to get? A brightly colored psychedelic VW Beetle, maybe? ;)

  16. Isn't it strange that all you need is a computer test before you can get behind the wheel? Well, then you need to be tested again, but still. I always thought it was insane that they gave me my license even though I was miserable at parallel parking! Like, I mean, sweaty palms and all, talking too much to distract, looking at the clock, almost knocking off every cone kind of awful!

I really LOVE your tights, by the way!

  18. It took me a long time to get my license too, all my friends had their's at 16 and i didn't get mine until I was almost 21. Congrats! It gets way easier/less scary with time
I absolutely love this dress, such a gorgeous piece with the collar and those fantastic tights :)

  23. How exciting, congrats on your permit! I've had my license for 3 or 4 years and I still don't feel totally comfortable driving, haha. It just takes some getting used to! But I know that you can do it. Also, I love the outfit, especially the tights & shoes!

  25. Good job! I think all DMVs are like that... at least, I've never heard anyone share a good experience at one. You'll get used to driving. It's really a lot like riding a bike. Soon, you won't even have to think about braking and turn signals; your body will just do it automatically.

  26. Congrats! Driving is scary. I hated learning at 16, and then a year ago I learned how to drive a stick. Even through I had been driving for (cough) 16 years, it was scarier. Now a year later- I am a better driver but I still hate driving a stick. And parallel parking? Forget it!

  27. Congratulations! I'm pushing the big 3-0 and have yet to face my fear and learn how to drive. So, good for you! It gives me hope that some day I'll get guts to do it myself.

  33. This is so cute! I'm not sure if you have done something like this before but I would love to see you do a piece on what you consider Modcloth essential items that everyone should own.

  34. Love the dress! I think a good driving tip is to always look around when changing lanes, and don't just rely on your mirrors because of blind spots. That's what I learned pretty early on, in an almost bad way. :/

  35. I still feel weird driving though I've only been doing it for two years. Before that I lived in DC and didn't have to drive any where so it's been a weird transition. I still don't have the balls to drive on the highway. Oh well. One day. Congrats on your new adventure!

  36. Congrats!! I just learned to drive about 5 months ago. Its hard and scary at first, but the learning curve is really quick. Just remember to not let other drivers rush you, your and everyone else's safety is the most important thing.

  37. Oh my gosh already?! CONGRATS! I'm so proud and sinpired! I haven't even been practicing driving yet this year, but when we did last year, I got a little giggly too! I also felt really emotional and pumped like after getting a tattoo. I don't think it is the same in Texas that I could just take a computer test...hmm might have to do some research. Go you! YAY!

  38. I'm still too frightened to get my license but maybe I should try for it this summer. Anyway, cute outfit!

  39. Yay! That's great! I have had my beginners licence for a while, and I keep starting to practice and then something comes up and I get out of it again. But this year I am totally going to try and get the next level (we have three in Canada). Good luck and happy driving!

  40. Congratulations on getting your driving license :) I absolutely hate driving but I still have the license because I'm sure that it will be useful at some point. Driving is mostly about practise so I'm sure you'll be a wonderful driver after a while. I love the outfit and you look adorable as always :3

  41. Way to go!!! I was also super-scared to learn how to drive, and even after getting my license it took me a long time to get comfortable behind the wheel. You are so brave, and while it might seem scary now I promise it'll get fun soon!

  42. Congrats and good luck! I have to wait another year so I can test drive with my boyfriend. In Sweden you have to be 24 yo and had your license for 5 years in order to test drive with someone.

  45. Oh my gosh, congratulations!! That is such big/awesome news! :D When I was 15, I failed my permit test the first time I took it. It asked me questions about tractors being on the road and I bombed. I cried and cried, but I passed it the next time thankfully.

  46. I'm in the same boat. But in New Hampshire, because I'm over 25 (or 21? or some age I am much older than!), I can drive with another licensed adult even though I don't have a permit. I've driven twice. It's panic inducing, honestly. Ugh. Let's make 2013 our year.

    ReplyDelete
  47. you only have to pass one test and you're allowed to drive?? oh man, that sounds insane to me! I have started taking my driving license but here we have to attend theoric classes (at least 28 classes), then we have to do an exam, then we need at least 32 pratical lessons and then you have a pratical exam which is quite difficult... needless to say I am quite jealous it's easier there! But hey, congratulations! So happy you can drive now :)

  48. Holy goodness, CONGRATS! Regardless of whether it's a driver's permit or anything else, it's so awesome to vanquish something that's held you down. I'm proud of you!

  52. I learned how to drive 4 years after I took driving school, so I know how it feels! I was so scared of driving, it's such a huge responsibility and people take it so lightly. I finally got used to driving, sort of. I still make people parallel park for me and drive into San Francisco :/ It's scary!! So far so good though, best of luck to you!! You should take driving pictures of you practicing!

  53. I didn't get my license until I was almost 22 because I was so terrified as a teenager. (Plus I went to college in a big city where you didn't NEED a car.) Now I can't imagine not being able to drive. I love it!
