How lovely is this vintage coat? I got it back in August on my annual birthday antiquing roadtrip. Last stop of the day about ten minutes before we were about to walk out of the antique mall I spotted it. Love at first sight!! It's the softest velvety material.
Despite how soft it is and how perfect the color is my favorite part might just be what I found in the pocket. There was a ticket to the 1973 Pasadena Rose Bowl. It's not the fact that it's the Rose Bowl that is significant to me (I literally couldn't care less about college football) but I'm just so in love with the fact that 40 years ago someone was wearing this coat. I know, obviously, that nearly all the vintage I own has had a previous owner but to put a real date and event on it makes it feel so special. I wonder who wore it, and what she wore with it. I wonder if she's still alive and I wonder what she'd think of someone discovering the coat 40 years from the time she wore it and absolutely loving it.
I don't know about you but thinking about who owned something before I did is one of my very favorite things about buying vintage. Needless to say, I'm keeping the ticket in the pocket and maybe I'll leave a movie stub from one I see while wearing the coat in it for the next person who owns it (hopefully future offspring seeing as I don't foresee thrifting this coat anytime soon!) to find and hopefully enjoy.
Hope you're having an excellent Monday!
xoxo

I love finding things other than old tissues in the pockets of thrifted items :) that first photo of you is especially stunning.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I know, right!? Every other coat, or sweater I've ever thrifted has had wadded up tissues in the pocket. They surprise me every time too.
DeleteI love everything about this outfit - especially those shoes!
ReplyDeleteThat ticket is such a fun find. I wish tickets still looked that festive, don't you?
you oxfords are fantastic. i am so often matching browns and blues in my outfits but picking one in favor of the other for shoes. these are great!

Finding that ticket must have been so exciting! But I have to say I am obsessed with that ring. I have a gold fox ring and a couple of owl ones, but not that colorful! And that coat is, of course, gorgeous! Great outfit :)

I wish I had a coat like that!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this outfit! I think it's probably my favorite outfit of yours thus far. The primary colors are what caught my eye and that coat is just fabulous! I, too, like finding things in the pockets of vintage finds especially when it's something awesome like a ticket to the 1973 Rose Bowl! One time I found a snotty tissue in the pocket of a vintage knit cardigan. That was not so awesome. Most recently, I found a ticket from 2009 to a show for a punk band called Subhumans. It was stuck in a used copy of Geek Love (thanks for the recommendation, I love it!). It's not the same as finding something in an article of clothing, but I still got really excited about it and wondered where that person is and what they're like!
ReplyDeleteOh finding things in used books is equally exciting for sure! Glad you loved Geek Love!! :)
Deletelove this coat and the story about that ticket!
ReplyDeleteOh my god THE COAT. I almost cried when I saw that it was vintage and I couldn't buy it immediately.
ReplyDeleteThat coat is amazing! And what cool story to go along with it! Usually all I find in thrifted things are old tissues - gross. Also, I am so in love with your hat - what a great find!

Have to say... I love your style! Brilliant x
ReplyDeleteIf only I made HALF the amount of effort you do with your daily outfits - I might look half decent! Im dying my hair in a few weeks, you've been my inspiration! xx
ReplyDeleteYou are perfection, I love every single detail of this coat, and what a fantastic find in the pocket!
ReplyDeleteFabulous coat and ensemble, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteSo happy to have found you.

Ah, you are so beautiful! You have an amazing style, and such a beautiful smile and face.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the outfit is absolutely perfect. I love everything, but especially the sweater clips and the hat.
I've never found anything cool in the pockets of thrifted items, but I once got a book out of the library and there was a note in it written by my best friend. It said 'there is cake for you in the fridge'. However it was not for me, it was for her house-mate, who had borrowed this book once and then put the note in as a book mark. But it was strange to recognise the hand-writing staring out at me.
Everytime I see your super cute outfits I want to wear more skirts and dresses and when I find some nice ones they look horrible on me... cruel world :/
ReplyDeleteI wanna have your hair!
ReplyDeleteAnd you've got such perfect legs!
♥
OMG i love your coat! it's so pretty! ( i'm sorry by my english)
ReplyDeleteI love that coat! The colour is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI have a coat that my mother bought when she was 16. She gave it to me on my 16th birthday and it's still my favourite coat to this day. The first time I wore it, I dug my fingers into the pockets and unearthed a 30-year-old tram ticket from Moonee Ponds to Essendon. It was from the time when my parents were newlyweds and were living in Melbourne. I still have that ticket. It was such a precious find.
I adore these primary colors on you! The dress is perfect and you always style things uniquely and beautifully. Love love love!
ReplyDeleteLovely coat - looks great on you. I found a receipt and taxi number from the 70s when I got a vintage bag once. It's interesting to think about the person who owned the item before. I love it :) x
ReplyDeleteThat coat! Omg! Gimme it :P
ReplyDeleteIt is a seriously gorgeous coat. I love your hair too, wow, what a stunning color.

Totally biased, but this is one of my favorite outfits I've seen you wear! Probably because it has all of my favorite/most worn colors.
ReplyDelete1) Love the red coat! 2) Love the dress ( I own it too)!! 3) Love the ring!! ( I own the very same one too:) LOVE Sea of Bees!!! It's so fun to see some of my pieces on other bloggers and how they've worn it differently! beautiful all around!!
ReplyDeleteI would be geeking out like crazy if I found that in the pocket! Time to start searching in pockets more often... Also, you look so pretty in these colors. Love all of it.
ReplyDeleteAwwww...I used to live and work close to the Rose Bowl...they also host a huge swamp meet with amazing things...Oh how I miss that area!
ReplyDeleteOMG that coat is gooorgeous. You could probably style it as a dress on its own too! So cool when you find things in pockets, it really makes you wonder if the person who had it made a special trip to that game? Or did they move from Cali? I love imagining what-might-have-been. :)
