the details
dress (worn as a shirt) - c/o Romwe
skirt - thrifted
headband - handmade
suspenders - ebay
shoes - Blowfish

I love these flatforms from Blowfish so much I went out searching for more colors. After looking for a while and being disappointed by prices (why are they so expensive on ebay?!) I finally found some in red and better yet, they were on sale! I wish these came in even more colors (and a closed toe option for fall/winter!) Flatforms are the only shoes other than flats I feel comfortable in, they're so easy to walk in.

Hope you're having a wonderful Monday! Today I'm going be taking lots of before photos for a little living room project we'll be working on later this week. Yesterday we went and picked up a snazzy new (errr, old! It's marked 1963 on the inside) credenza for my living room. It's so fabulous, and just what I've been looking for for around a year. It couldn't have come at a better time, my birthday week! I can't wait to see my living room finally come together.

Look at this! A rare outfit post with my hair is down!! Lately I've basically been wearing my hair in a ponytail non-stop. I've been trying for around year to grow my hair out (still working on it!) so I could have reeeeal nice braids (typing it makes it sound like a really silly reason to grow your hair....) Putting my hair up in a ponytail is the easiest thing to do since every time I try to curl it it goes flat in less than an hour. My hair is pin straight, I mean when people say they have straight hair - they have nothing on my straight hair. I hate it. I don't even remember the last time I just wore my hair down, and natural, I just don't feel comfortable in straight hair. I would love to have a natural wave, just something small that could be straightened if I wanted or curled if I wanted that but on lazy days I could just let it be. Until there's some technology that will allow me to change my natural hair this method is my new favorite thing!! Elycia was doing it while she was out and bet me that that method would actually make my hair curly, and needless to say she won the bet! This was from my first shot using the headband, I only wore it for an hour or so and put it in completely dry hair. So, needless to say, I was super stoked about my little waves. That is what my dream natural hair looks like, color and all!

Since these photos were taken I've been experimenting almost every day with the headband curl method and everyday it's getting easier and my curls are looking nicer. I'm super pleased. The best part is probably that, unlike the tacky foam curlers I used to use, the headband actually looks really awesome so I can go out while I'm waiting on my hair to be fabulous for the evening.

Hope you're having an awesome day! Mine was off to a bad start (I found one of my favorite planters had been blown down and the flowers that were inside are destroyed from last night's wind) but I'm determined to make it a productive and overall great day.

Photo an hour // July 10th

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

While Elycia was out near the beginning of the month (I can't believe it was so long ago!) we both took a photo an hour. Here is our day through my viewfinder...

7am // I watered all my flowers while Elycia worked out.
8am // Breakfast and brainstorming. Elycia came out of the shower with a killer idea and we immediately started planning.
9am // Still brainstorming, writing notes and dreaming up silly ideas.
10am // A quick stop at Sheetz for drinks before heading out to get supplies.
11am // Browsing for said supplies at the thrift store.
12pm // Picking out flowers at the craft store to make pretty headbands.
1pm // A tasty lunch of Roma pizza, salad, the best creme soda and cold coffee (....? ew!)
2pm // We started shooting a video and were joined by Doctor Octopus.
3pm // Packing up to head to the beach. Elycia and I spent a crazy amount of time at the beach over the course of the week. It was the best!
4pm // Relaxing a minute before heading into the water to play in the waves.
5pm // Still at the beach. We had so much fun letting the waves crash into us.
6pm // THIS IS A BIG DEAL...Squid made friends with Elycia while she was out!! Squid likes all of about four humans total (Me, Kevin and my parents) and she used to spend all of Elycia's visit in the bedroom closet (her safe place) but she decided to venture out during this visit. She even flopped for Elycia and let her rub her belly.
7pm // Tacos for dinner!
8pm // No evening with Elycia would be complete without some time spent painting nails!
We ended the evening taking some photos outside (which we'll be sharing another day!). All in all it was a fabulous day. I have such a blast with Elycia! Make sure to check out Elycia's blog to see what the day looked like through her viewfinder.

Hope you're all having a wonderful Wednesday. I've got plans with my mom today, so I'm pretty excited about getting the day started.

film photos - some of my favorites

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Here are some more photos from when my 60D was in for repairs a while back. These are some of my favorites as well as some that didn't really fit into any of the categories I put the photos in when I shared them back in June and earlier this month.
The more time that passes since that sad, sad day my camera broke I can more easily admit I'm glad it happened. Don't get my wrong, I LOVE my 60D and I never want her to break again but I really did fall back in love with film. I find myself reaching for film over my digital most days, it's awesome.

We were totally looking at a bird in those last two photos. We were clearly shocked by how beautiful it was.

You can find Elycia's outfit details on her blog.

These pictures make me so sad Elycia isn't here right now. We had such a blast the week she was here. We have a handful of awesome things that we worked on lined up to post in the near future. The first of which, obviously, being this one. We had plans to take outfit pictures each day she was here but only managed to document two of them because we were so busy. We really only sat around the house on the last full day she was here but even that was only for a few hours until we headed to Cleveland to eat and see mewithoutYou.

Taking outfit pictures with Elycia is such a blast. Sometime taking pictures alone can get to be a bit of a drag (even though I am always to have them when I'm done) But I swear every other picture from this little set was us cracking up or just being silly, I kind of found it difficult to find ones that weren't ridiculous. The outtakes really are the best though, they make me smile from ear to ear thinking about how much fun we were having.

And of course we took a jumping picture! I think it's required that we always do!
Well, I'm gonna get back to work now. It's supposed to be 95F, so today will be all about keeping cool and not roasting. (This girl doesn't handle the heat well!) Hope you all have a fabulous (and cool!) Monday.
