Shedd Aquarium - Part Two - Jellyfish

Monday, October 1, 2012

Last week I shared photos from Shedd Aquarium but like I mentioned in that post over half of the photos I took in Chicago were of the jellyfish exhibit. We managed to find out way into that exhibit while it was almost completely empty which made it twice as awesome. With no one else to push us out of the way Elycia and I had free reign to stand in front of each tank for as long as we wanted taking pictures and standing in awe. They are mesmerizing. I could have watched them forever.
Aren't they so neat? The jellyfish exhibit alone at Shedd is worth going for! I know it's crazy talk, especially if you could see all the other jellyfish pictures on my hard drive, but I wish I would have taken more photos. There were a few tanks that didn't have such great lighting so I was having trouble capturing their beauty but I bet fiddling with settings for a little while would have solved the problem. I'm not too upset about it though, I absolutely love these pictures. I even made one of my favorites (the first one) the background on my computer which is saying a lot since it's always been a picture of one of my cats.

Hope you're having an awesome Monday. Today is for sorting through pictures and beginning to organize some of October's coming posts, I'm excited to get started.
xoxo

  3. These are absolutely stunning! I love jellyfish, they are just so pretty! I've not dared go to an aquarium in years, I visited one in Romania a couple of years ago and it was just so awful, I think there was even a dead fish in one of the tanks! We've got a nice one quite close to us though so maybe I should try again. I guess it's the same as anything involving animals, a nice zoo is great but a not so nice one is just so depressing xo

  7. I've been looking forward to this post! I love jellyfish, our aquarium in Dallas only had a tiny tank of them and they were small and cute but I want to see ones like these in person. Great pictures, I just love them!

  12. If you think that is an awesome jellyfish exhibit, you should check out the aqaurium in New Orleans. It is outstanding! They have upside-down jellyfish which makes the bottom of the tank look like it is breathing. It's insane :)

  13. Really great photos! I love jellyfish and I keep meaning to go to this exhibit, but haven't managed so far. My favorite jelly is the one with the pink fringe, it reminds me of the little ottoman from Beauty and the Beast! :)

  14. This is great. I have always wanted to take a great amount of photos of jellyfish. I think that all of the photos are wonderful but the first one is a winner. We have an aquarium about 2 hours from here that the water is above and on the sides, so when you walk it actually feels like you are underwater!

  18. Indeed, jellyfish are very neat! I always spend a crazy amount of time in the jelly fish section of our aquarium too (Monterey Bay Aquarium). I like that they are all separated and displayed so nicely so you can see them really well. I mean, I love that all the fishies get to swim around together and be happy, but it doesn't make for very good pictures (and it's hard to get good looks at all the different fish!) Your pictures turned out really pretty too! The tanks in Monterey mostly have blue lighting and backgrounds--these purply and black ones really bring out the colors nicely. Beautiful : ]

  27. Wow, that's amazing! I wish I were closer to my nearest sea life centre. It's got this giant sharks mouth you have to walk through to get to the exhibits. Though, when I was last there, that made me cry. I was only little!
