Chicago snapshots...

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Like I mentioned a thousand other times two weekends ago Elycia, Ivan, Kevin and I took a trip to Chicago for Renegade Craft Fair. We had a BLAST. The trip was over way too fast. We both have more than a few posts coming up about the weekend (even a really awesome video!) but first I'm gonna start with just some random photos of Chicago.

After we left Renegade (where I managed to take a grand total of ZERO pictures!) we headed to Navy Pier where we did touristy things like take lots of photos, oooh and ahhh over just about everything, and spend lots of money on photobooth pictures and souvenir pennies. We even went in the fun house - it was amazing. Seriously, probably one of my favorite parts of the whole trip! I now want to visit every fun house ever.
Before I visited Chicago, Seattle was my favorite city but I've got a new love! As long as you avoid the museum campus on opening season game day for the Bears, Chicago seems like a pretty awesome place. We ate amazing food (Native Foods Cafe, oh my gosh, delicious!!), enjoyed exploring this new to us city and totally loved the fact that for some reason the highway from the city to our hotel always smelled like fresh from the oven chocolate chip cookies. There's a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. on the pier which despite the fact I don't eat seafood still made me squeal with joy (huuuuge Forrest Gump fan over here!!)I maybe even kind of regret not buying a souvenir from there. I've got my fingers crossed we can make out next year for Renegade too! There is so much more of this city I want to see.
xoxo

  2. Oh gosh, I totally got caught up in the Bears mess that Sunday! I was visiting a friend in Chicago (we went to Renegade, too!) and Sunday was my last day, so we decided to go to Adler. It took us forever to get there because of all the traffic and rerouted buses.

Chicago is a wonderful city though. I miss it already. :)

That's an entertaining read about the Chicago chocolate aroma :)

Ahh my town, I love it so. Did you find anything good at the fair?

  4. Color me ignorant, but what are those colorful pebbles in that bowl?
    My guesses
    Ummmm... homemade Nerds candy?
    Butterscotch chips?
I seriously have no idea. I'm Canadian maybe whatever that is doesn't exist here?
Either way, I kind of want some.

  8. BUBBA GUMP!!! That's completely amazing. I don't really eat seafood either, but I think I'd have to try it if I saw that there :)

  9. Ahh, Chicago! One of my favorite cities! I lived there for 3 years and miss it dearly! Looks like you are having a great time so far! You should definitely check out the wicker park/bucktown area, my old neighborhood. I'm sure it's changed a lot. I haven't lived there in over 5 years. I used to do a lot of my vintage/resale shopping there. There is great shopping and food in that area in general though, especially towards the bucktown area. I have always loved the vibe of this part of town. It's definitely an artsy neighborhood.

  12. I've always wanted to visit Chicago because I've heard so many wonderful things about it. If you love Forrest Gump, then you'll want to visit Savannah, GA. if you haven't already. Parts of the movie were filmed there + its a pretty awesome place for other reasons.

  15. I'm sad I missed the Renegade Craft Fair this year! Being a Chicago native, I found your positive comments to be so interesting! Lately, I've been like: Blah! I need a new city! I'm bored with this one!

I will take your positive comments about it and re-explore it to find the good that I know is there! :)

    Glad you enjoyed it!

  16. Aw man, that restaurant looks soooo good! Wish they had one in Texas! Hard to find good vegan food in a state known for beef!

  17. Sadly Navy Pier is my least favorite spot of Chicago. I guess because it is so touristy and cheesy. My favorites that you should check out are: Millenium Park, walking around the Loop, and exploring all of the different neighborhoods, Clark street in Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, etc.

  18. I'm so happy you loved it! Even though I've been to Navy Pier a million times, I still haven't gone to that maze... I begged my mom so many times as a kid but nope! Did you see the stained glass? It's so eerie and nice. Oh, and if you're a popcorn fan, I hope you tried (or will try) Garrett Popcorn! I can't wait for your other posts on Chicago.

  23. Fantastic photos! I mean, I'm sure you already know that though--you're such an amazing photographer! Have you ever considered opening a photo store on Etsy or something? I know you're busy with Circus Bear Vintage though. But I would so buy a print or two from you if you did!

And yay Dippin Dots!! I worked at a Dippin Dots cart a few times last year for a friend. Free Dippin Dots!! I went crazy with them. I would have some of every kind every day hahah! Banana split was by far my favorite, though the mint chocolate one you got is pretty dang good too : ]

  24. wow, a "city post" from you looks so different from your usual posts :)
I've never been to Chigago, but Seattle is also my fave city in the US!

  25. Great snaps, Oh my gosh, you had dippin' dots! I haven't had those since I was a little kid, feeling rather nostalgic now :)

  26. Yay! I love seeing such lovely pictures of my city.

The chocolate smell is only occasionally eclipsed by the smell of freshly baked bread from the bread factories. It's no wonder we're all always stuffing our faces. ;-)

  27. My parents are always talking about Native Foods cafe (they go to the Portland location), but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Next time I'm in town, I suppose!

  28. I am glad you enjoyed Chicago :) I live here and I love it!

  29. Ahhh! My building (work) is in your first photo! :)

Native foods in about 1.5 miles away from where I live, and I know the Blommer Chocolate smell WELL. Try living here in the winter, when it's really cold and crisp out and the chocolate smell just goes for miles, literally.

I'm so happy you had fun in our town! And like another commenter mentioned, I hope you got to try some Garrett's popcorn; Chicago mix, of course (cheese and carmel)! :)
