I specifically remember multiple times growing up when my mom would tell me that I'd love flowers when I had my own house. I was pretty indifferent to them growing up but I have to admit my mom was certainly right. Three years into being a home owner and I'm a little more than mildly flower obsessed. My deck is covered in gorgeous colorful plants. I look forward to each spring when I can get flowers and transform my deck into my own little sanctuary.
It's weird because I never realized how much joy something so silly could bring me. I genuinely feel happy looking at all the plants blooming on my deck. I wish they could be there all year long instead of just in the spring and summer.

Also, Lloyd is pretty great as well! He's seriously the sweetest little guy. On the day I took these pictures he had spent most of the evening with me. I was putting together some new planters full of flowers and he just sat near me splitting his time between snoozing in the sun and sniffing flowers.

  3. Awww, lovely! I have just started to plant things in my garden - it's a brand new house plot so it was just a square of mud and stones when we first moved in (and now I'm feeling quite inspired to blog about how far it's come!).

  4. Totally! I would cringe when my mom would ask me to help her in the garden but now I love my flowers. We don't have many places to keep them yet in the backyard but I love our front garden. Your back porch is such a nice place to hang out!

  12. Oh how lovely! That looks like such a nice place to hang out. I love flowers, whenever I have my own place I hope to have a nice area of them, even if it's in an apartment. We find it hard to have nice flowers at our house, our dogs either dig them up or pee on them :(

  16. Your flowers are soo pretty! My boyfriend and I also "have" a stray cat. She roams the neighborhood but stays at our house a lot because we feed her and she sleeps in our garage. Do you ever worry about Llyod? I worry about our stray but we really can't bring her into our home!

    1. Of course, I worry about him! But I know he's a smart kitty who know how to survive and knows that he can come sleep, get love and eat at our house. :)

  18. My mom said the same thing to me. Though, she was more focused on vegetable gardening and cooking up food for myself. I think she is a little impressed that I managed to become a little adult with a garden of her own.

  20. Those planters are beautiful. Do you have any perennials in your yard? I'm a total sucker for flowers (my whole blog is basically covered in them right now).

It's scary how mothers know best, my mom told me the exact same thing, haha.

    1. Nope, we don't have any flower gardens in our yard. My garden out front is pretty shrubs that we planted when we moved in and a rose bush (oh, wait, so I guess yes, we do have at least one perennial)and in the backyard we have a garden for food (so so so much sweet corn!).

    1. I dunno, they just don't bother them? Out of the 6 strays I see on a regular basis I've never seen anyone bother the flowers.

  24. Sounds like mama knows what she is talking about! I had no interest in gardening when I was younger and never imagined myself maintaining a garden of my own but once I moved to my current apartment, I quickly changed my tune. My apartment was built in the 1930's and has a really neat bay window that extends out of the wall. It is a perfect spot for plants to grow. I am still pretty lazy when it comes to taking care of plants so I opted for the the less demanding option and started a little cactus, succulent, and herb collection! I just love admiring them in my window!

  30. This is the first year I've started to enjoy planting with my Mom at our house. Since I'm moving out soon, I've grown to appreciate the beauty of gardening. Except the bugs, I can do without those.

And I smile so big when I see pictures of your kitties, love them!
