What I wore: on the beach

the details
shirt - c/o Romwe
skirt - thrifted / vintage
tights - Amazon
socks - Forever 21
shoes - c/o Wanted Shoes

This is one of my favorite skirts. I actually kind of hate wearing it because I'm afraid of ruining it. I feel that way about a good portion of my clothes though. I've always been the kind of person who likes to get dirty when I go outside. If there's a puddle, I'd love to splash in it. Mud? I want to squish my toes in it. A tree down? Of course I want to climb all over it. As a child I had distinct "play clothes" and "school clothes" and now as an adult, I'm trying to break that habit (I mean, I don't go to school anymore obviously, so I guess they'd now be "estate sale clothes" Haha) or at least make the line a little blurrier. Just because I'm going to take a walk on the beach or in the woods doesn't mean I need to wear my play clothes. I can go outside, not get completely dirty - and if I do my clothes can be washed! It's so not as big a deal as I make it in my head.

We've been spending so much time at the beach lately, I love it. Even if I do really love the beach in the winter it's so nice to go there and not freeze my butt off. We spent this particular evening picking up rocks. Right now our beach is mostly rocks, almost all of the sand has disappeared. While that would really suck if I had plans of playing in the sand, I really just prefer being on the beach looking for treasures and enjoying the sights and sounds. Plus there are so many cool rocks! Not to sound like a total weirdo but I could seriously spend all day on the beach just looking for cool rocks and photographing them. They come in so many colors and patterns, it's just amazing.

Hope you have a fabulous Thursday!
xoxo

  3. I totally do the same thing with clothes, if I'm wearing my "good clothes" I get changed when I get home so I don't "ruin" them, it's weird and I'm trying to break the habit too. I think mine stems from getting in from school as a child and changing into my tree climbing clothes too and the habit has just kind of stuck. (that plus I do have a bad habit of spilling paint and coffee on myself quite regularly!)

Love this outfit on you! The skirt's such a flattering shape. :)

  4. What a pretty outfit, and gorgeous beach. I love the rocks around the great lakes, always so smooth. My favorite is how different they look in the water and then dried out on land. You're making me nostalgic, thanks.

  5. I'm observing your blogspot since about a month. I'm totally impressed even it's not my style. This is amazing what you do. Your type of clothes, your specific fashion, the way you look like. I wrote you an @ but you didn't answer, think you've got a lot of such @'s, anyway - you live close to some wood, and also close to the sea? How come, I'm envious...

  6. Those tights are super cute. It reminds of when nylons were scarce during the war, and women would draw a line on the backs of their legs to pretend they were wearing pantyhose.

  7. Oh gosh, I love collecting and photographing rocks as well. There's all sorts of cool things you can find at the beach. :) Yesterday when my boyfriend and I were there for our morning jog, he found a big conch shell! It now sits gloriously on our bookshelf as a trophy, ha ha.
Hope you have a lovely day!

  11. I think the rocks would make it better for walking around and hunting for treasures, better for your shoes I mean. Every time I go to the beach my shoes get dirty and filled with sand and if I had the adorable shoes you are wearing I would definitely be hesitant to wear them. Yay for rocks!
Also, thank you for your comment on my blog, I am happy you read it. I was telling my boyfriend how I love the crazy things you wear and how it looks so cute. I have this insane skirt in my closet that I have been telling him I am going to wear. He thinks I am weird (In a good way though!). Hahaha.

  15. That basket is the cutest, most loveliest thing I've seen all day! And your shoes are super cute. I know what you mean about "school clothes" and "play clothes" I'm an adult (supposedly) and I'm exactly the same still! http://teaforowls.blogspot.co.uk/

  16. I love your shoes, they're adorable with your lovely skirt! I have the same problem with being a little afraid of wearing certain things -- mostly vintage things. I'm always concerned I'll rip a favorite vintage dress... and I have! Luckily that's what sewing machines are for. ;)

  21. Messing up/ruining clothes? I know the feeling. =) Seems I go through clothes twice as fast (if not faster), than my sister who’s only a little older than me. We do have very different jobs though… I really like the rocks, by the way.

  22. I feel the same way about a lot of my clothes, but it's a shame to keep them shut away in a cupboard so I'm trying to get past it!

I love this outfit - very elegant!

  31. I love rocks too! In third grade I wanted to study rocks and I had a rock collection and I was basically obsessed with rocks. I even did my science fair project on rocks. They're so gorgeous! And fun. I still love learning about all the different kinds of rocks. And I'm still a sucker for a good ol' rock.

Oh and this is probably one of my favorite outfits of yours too. It's super timeless and classy and you make it look so easy and comfortable to wear. :)

  33. you should stack rocks to photograph. my dad likes to go river rafting, and when they camp for a day, he likes to spend it making towering rock towers! It's fun to find other's rock creations too

  34. I am the same way! I feel like I have separate areas for the different elements of my wardrobe. I have been trying to weed out some of the "play" clothes but there are so many memories! Great outfit and I can see why you love the skirt so!

  37. I don't know if you've looked at rock stacking and balancing pictures or videos but it sounds like your rocky beach would be perfect! I spent the majority of last summer playing (in my mini dresses and mini skits I LOVE wearing all summer) in the creek near, that lives in a park near my house. A friend and I would go stack rocks for hours, it's so fun looking for the perfect ones and trying to balance them and make towers and pyramids and such, you should try!!

  40. You're lucky to have a beach nearby. I'm landlocked where I come from and I love the ocean. I love beachcombing and so I just love to see what you find on your excursions! And the mushrooms! Also, I love the outfit!

  43. I completely understand your rock obsession! When I was little, town I lived in was by the beach and I used to spend hours and hours collecting up sea glass and interesting pebbles and shells. I have a 'sea jar' now, so fun to have on the windowsill!

  44. Gorgeous! I love that beautiful skirt & those shoes. I was definitely a school clothes/play clothes girl as well. I always got shockingly dirty from getting down & playing with the boys. When it rained one of our favourite games was riding our bikes down the hill on our street into the massive water/mud puddle that always sprung up at the bottom of the hill. These days, I for an outing I mostly wear my nice clothes with big clunky boots - that way I can get messy up to my knees, lol!

  45. I also feel a bit like you do when it comes to play with fancy clothes... it's just like every piece of clothing has a proper place for me to use it but, at the same time, I'd love to wear fancy clothes when I'm out in my adventures, I just don't like worrying about getting them ruined :(
Oh and I absolutely love those photos of the beach! I don't think I've ever been to a beach full of rocks, here in Portugal they're pretty much all sand beaches but that one definitely looks amazing!

  46. I love your outfit! I like going to the beach in style, too. That’s why whenever I plan on going, I can’t help but go shopping for new beach wear. Last time I wore a short blue skirt and sleeveless white tank top with a little red ribbon on it.
