hat- thrifted

The outtakes from this were truly some of the funniest I've ever taken. Ya know how the last few outfit posts I've mentioned I'm struggling with feeling comfortable in my own yard since I'm a country girl and living in the 'city' is weird, yada, yada, yada? Well I made a goal that by the end of Summer I'd be comfortable enough to take pictures on my deck. Sounds like no big deal, but when I'm up on the deck I feel like I'm on a massive platform for all the neighbors to look at. On Friday, I just went for it. I started early enough in the day that I'm pretty sure my neighbor on the one side was at work and the other was still sleeping. Then it starts to rain and I have to quit and go inside without any photos. It finally stops raining and I head back outside. Not five minutes later I hear a door open and my one neighbor comes outside and starts working in his garage, five minutes after that the other neighbor pulls in his drive way! Eeek! I freak out, go inside and feel miserable about how I'm such a nervous nelly. Finally after a popsicle and some love from the kitties I put on my big girl pants and went outside determined to get at least one decent photo of my outfit...AND I DID! SO TAKE THAT SHYNESS! BAAAAM!!! I'm pretty stoked but I know that each time I go back out to try with a new outfit it will be equally as challenging, at least for a little while. But that really did give me quite the spark of confidence!

By the way, are those shoes absolutely fantastic!? I think they're snazzy beyond words! I jumped for joy when I found them waiting for me outside my garage door. I'm always nervous getting shoes that I'm unable to try on first but these run true to size and are really cozy.

Well, I'm heading to work now! Hope you all have a perfect Monday!
xoxo

  3. I love your outfit, and those shoes are amazing! I know how you feel - I'm terribly shy and nervous too, and I hate it when I feel like people are watching me. But, I'm working on this, and hopefully it's something that I will overcome one day! :)

  4. I feel weird taking pictures of myself all the time, even in my room. I hate to pose and am rather a fan of spontaneous shots because I feel totally awkward when I take outfit shots.

  5. Your hair looks really pretty that way.
Don't be shy, just try to ignore that your neighbours are there!

  8. I hear you!

I am not a city girl, and even living in a town as opposed to a city makes me nervous for little photo shoots like that. I get soooo awkward! Thats why most are done in my bedroom, haha.

But these look amazing, your so pretty and that outfit is so fun!

  9. Haha, at least you have the excuse that you have a shop... you can always just say you're taking pictures for that. Somehow that seems better than just taking pictures of an outfit. I'm a complete bag of nerves when the self timer is involved too however. : )

  11. Taking pictures and posing makes me so nervous too, it's so hard to not get a weird look on my face. Funny how people who love to take pictures are often nervous to get their own picture taken.
But I'm sure we can get used to it the more we conquer our fear;)

    Love the shoes!

  12. Okay you might find this hard to believe, but I found that exact same belt at St Vinnie's the other day! I didn't realize you had it, until this photo. But I thought it was an awesome find and totally retro. Another example of your great taste! :)

Do not worry about those neighbors...just do your thing....when you see them, pretend that they are in their underwear...say hello and go on with what you were doing. Who knows, they may be curious to get to know such a fabulous person!!!!

  23. You are SO adorable. Truly. It makes me so happy that you are conquering your shyness. You are not alone in your anxiety with picture taking...I definitely struggle with this a lot. I worry that it is holding me back as a blogger...

  24. You are the prettiest flower on your deck and I'm sure in your whole neighborhood. I found this belt in hot pink and love it!!! Keep coming out of your shell girl!

  28. These photos and outfits are always adorable. They inspire me to get more creative with what I've got on hand in the closet.

And seriously, you do look confident in your photos, belying your shy nature ;)

I need to actually use my camera and take photos like these, to help me with my hideous posture! (Seeing it in photos will emphasize the horror!)

  30. I love this outfit and those shoes... eep! So pretty!

I'm the same way-- I always have to find a secluded place to take outfit photos. I feel really dumb and uncomfortable if I think people can see me. Good job on overcoming!

  31. Kaylah, the photos were worth you being brave and doing it on your deck. You look gorgeous and your hair is getting so long!

I know what it's like to stress about that type of thing, it's not that I've moved situations but I've been ill for so long, that 'normal' situations freak me out, so your post just made me try and be more confident and get out there and be brave :D

  33. Good for you! Haha if I had your house, I wouldn't worry so much. I live on a "ghetto street" that always had people coming and going and to take my daily outfits, I always must have a tree in the background. Well, the only part of my front lawn is right on the street but I don't care! Sure I get some crazy looks from people who don't even speak english, people driving by I've even had some annyoing little kids ask me "What you think you're a model or something?" I just smile and say 'Yup, a model for the Forest, my online shop. Check it out!"

    ReplyDelete
  34. Awww yay! Congratulations! I have never taken a picture around someone I don't know, I freak out. x

  36. I usually lurk, but since you were brave enough to take pictures I figured I should be brave enough to post. ;)

I always love the use of color in your outfit posts. They inspire me to add pops of color to my own wardrobe.

  37. love the oxford shoe and sock combo and that dress is super cute too. Your backyard is so green, yay!

  42. Oh boy, I know what you're saying. I just moved from a life of countless apartments and city homes where you don't know your neighbor to a tiny little secluded neighborhood. Where all their kids play with my boyfriend's kids and so all the parents (and dad's girlfriens, haha) know each other. Suddenly I feel like every time I weed the garden or leave for work the entire neighborhood is watching. And heaven forbid I do something "weird" like take pictures or talk to the dog, haha. One neighbor kid even goes through out recycling bin!

    ReplyDelete
  43. oh i love this outfit! wow! i am soooo impressed with your bravery once again! i am still nervous to do that! also, i'm afraid my neighbours will see me and start talking to me, eeks, small talk! (although i have been improving my small talk with strangers skills...not my small talk with neighbours skills though)
and...i think we need an official countdown...4 more days!! ahh!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Go Kaylah! Better small steps than no steps... though it´s no small step to do that, if you are shy. I think it´s really cute how you are writing about your struggle taking photographs of yourself in the "public"... i can relate to that, too. btw: cute hat, i guess some tomboy outfits would suit you, too.

  45. I always get freaked out too! Even when I'm with someone that is helping me take the pictures and there are people around, so I absolutely know how you feel! I usually make sure there's no one around, or I take pictures inside! Anyways I'm glad you accomplished this task! You look adorable. I love those shoes! I always get so excited when I received packages!

Thank you all so much for the encouragement and kind words!! :D

Elycia, small talk with neighbors, ugh! everyone is always like well just say hi and then go about your business...that's kind of really hard! my neighbors are really chatty people and I am horrible at making small talk. Also, oh my gosh, 4 days!!! Eeeeeep!! I'm so excited.

HanaKei, sally hansen nail strips! they are so fabulous!

    ReplyDelete
  47. oh my gosh your nails are almost exactly the same as mine! I used Nails Inc silver polish and coated it with Barry M black crackle glaze polish. Snazzy =) xx

  48. I am always amazed by your adorable sense of style! You look incredible. I'm always nervous about taking outfit photos in front of the neighbours as well! My boyfriend is trying to persuade me to start taking the tripod outside with me, but I'm chickening out a little so far.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yay! I love your shoes with this outfit :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well done you! I'm the same - I feel a bit silly sometimes when people take my picture, especially if I feel like I'm 'posing'.
Your shoes are amazing! I'm well jealous ;)

  51. What a fun print - love it!

  52. i have that dress in two different patterns! i'm obsessed with the back of it. i feel like it's so feminine and classy.

  53. I completely know how you feel! Right now I live in a duplex whose front window looks into another duplex's front window. Needless to say I have the blinds closed most of the time! My roommate is constantly opening them, but to me that just feels like everyone is staring at me!

Right now I live in a town. As weird as it sounds, I actually felt more comfortable in the city, as far as shyness goes. I think it's because in a town, people are pretty nosy. In a city, everyone's kind of just doing their own thing and pretty much ignore you.

Anyway, cute shoes! I totally love those. :)
