The ever growing Professor! - The Dainty Squid

The ever growing Professor!

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

He is getting so big. I can't believe this is the same sickly little kitten we rescued just over two months ago. I don't realize how much he's growing until I look at pictures. His legs look too tall for his body, it makes him walk super cute. He's gained 4.2 pounds since his first vet visit. and he just got his last set of shots including rabies and will get neutered in November.

He still has his same bad habits (trying to get in the fridge, sleeping in the clean laundry basket) and developed a ridiculously dangerous one too. He tries to get into the oven...while it's on! When I open it to get out my baked goods that little kitty comes running!  Everything involving the oven is now done with haste and one foot out to push him away.

He likes boxes and baskets, just like the other kitties in the house. He still loves cuddling and absolutely loves to rub his little wet nose all over my face. He is the biggest cuddlebug I've ever met. This morning I woke up with him on my neck like a scarf. He is still having issues with knowing when to quit playing. Even when Leaf is hissing, growling, and biting at him, RayRay still continues to chase him, and try to play. He also has a slight attitude problem. "Professor, stop it" usually gets the response "mew mew squeak", he always responds when you talk to him. Sometimes it just sounds like he's being mean, like when you scold him, but it's so stinken adorable you can't be mad!

  2. I have a little foster kitten at the moment and she's the same as the Professor in regards to annoying the adult cats! She just climbs all over them with no idea that it's not proper cat etiquette! He's so gorgeous, he's going to be a lovely boy.

  12. Awww he is getting cuter & cuter w/ every picture. In all honesty, I really like cats. They terrify me. But your cuties make me want to go & get one. ♥

Oh you call him RayRay? We call our doggy Ray ray too. Her name is Raven but we call her Rayhound, Ray Ray, and Raveyoli (like ravioli) LOL

  14. Hha, he is so cute, everything you say about him reminds me of my youngest cat Redge, she has a real attitude problem too! She is a bully to my "queen" kitty Fiona, they are total enemies, never became friends! Redge also has an attitude towards us, epecially my boyfriend. She loves me and is super cuddly but she talks back and loves to bite, when I tell to stop or say no she gives me the dirtiest look, but she obeys and is still adorable! I love kitties so much :)

  16. We had to take my dog to the vet last year to have her...um...taken care of.
She kept having phantom pregnancies when she would think she'd given birth when she hadn't. She'd adopt a tennis ball or squeaky chicken and make a nest for it and try to feed it. But any time you went near her, she'd growl. She nearly took my dad's hand of one day and he was like, "RIGHT, that's IT!"

No problems since the vet visit :)

  23. He's the most gorgeous little puddy cat ever!
We had a puddy cat (kitty) and he was so cute!
He'd be running around the house then plonk himself on the floor and sleep!
We figured out it was cat flu and.... he.... had to be put down. The morning we were going to buy him!!!!

  28. My younger cat, Gretchen has started this habit of getting onto the stove while we're cooking: http://flic.kr/p/8EYwdM

  29. I totally understand about the stove issue. One time my oldest, Frank, jumped from kitchen table to the top of the stove while it was on. I was boiling noodles and had just moved the the boiling pot to drain it and he landed on the burner and burnt his little paws. Split second and those kitties can get into everything!

  30. hi,
i loove your blog and all the stories you have about thrift store finds and of course of the little kitties.

i read this tip in a cat book and am not sure how i feel about it (luckily my kittie doesn't care for the stove), but thought i would share in case you find it useful:
if you have a problem with the cat trying to get into the oven, you should let them in while it is OFF and COLD, close the door and bang on the door a few times to scare the bejeezus out of them. then obviously let them out, watch them fly out of the oven and probably never want to go near it ever again.

it sounds really harsh to me, but i don't know how serious the problem of him trying to get in is and if there is something similar you could do to scare him from ever trying to get in.

    good luck with everything! :)
