An update on the Professor. - The Dainty Squid

An update on the Professor.

Sunday, August 15, 2010

It's been just under a week that that little rascal has been introduced to the other three cats. Things are definitely progressing. I'm not playing referee as much as I thought I would. The kitten is still sleeping downstairs since I'm not sure how he'd do in bed with us, plus I really don't want to squish the little guy. (Kevin and I roll, flail and move around a lot in our sleep, I've woken up half on Doctor Octopus before, he was just looking at me like "really mom?") But Professor Stingray does just about everything else with us, he's learning to eat his dinner quickly before the big kitties gobble it up. He's starting to understand the concept of naps. (I thought kittens napped often, apparently I thought wrong. WAY WRONG.) And enjoys watching all my guilty pleasure shows with me. (coughjerseyshorecough)

He does have some really bad habits though, like biting. Let me tell you those little tiny teeth are razor sharp. The pain is amplified by ten when you're not expecting it, like when you're relaxing on the couch, you let your feet down and CHOMP! Another bad habit (if you can even call it that), thinking that everyone wants to play, all the time. The big kitties love to nap, they spend the better half of the day fast asleep in the window, in front of the new patio door or on the rug in front of the toilet (whyyyy?). Professor Stingray takes power naps, he's asleep for five minutes, if that, then he's terrorizing the big kitties. This picture just about sums how the other kitties feel.

haaaalp!

Leaf is really warming up to him, but gets annoyed at being disturbed while napping. Doctor Octopus is offish, he's definitely trying to keep his distance and still hisses when he's close. But last night I actually saw them playing for a few minutes, or shall I say Doctor Octopus was playing back. Squid just avoids the kitten, at all costs.

When he's not beating up the others he's busy rubbing his cold, wet nose all over my chin. Nuzzling is his favorite thing ever, it's so precious. He's a real cuddle bug and definitely knows who is momma is. ;)

xoxo.

It's funny but siamese cats are also my favourite. I've always wanted one. We have too many pets though.

  12. sooo cute, I love reading about the kitties :)
I thought all the cats bite when playing, because mine does it a lot (i'm used to it, but visits are sometimes annoyed...)

  13. Oh my gosh, that is just the exact same thing my cat did when he was a kitten! He was always "attacking" my other two cats which made them kinda crabby. And sooo full of energy, he never slept as a kitten! At least not until he became a cat...haha.

  17. We had exactly the same problem when we got our second dog! Isla (number one) is female and was a year old and a bit more grown up by then. Then we got Blue, who's male and not only was he mega hyper, but he has no brain to speak of.

There was a bit of a power struggle for a while to say the least!

  18. Campfire Chic, aw, I absolutely love when they wiggle their way between my laptop and me.

"he has no brain to speak of", hahah, that basically sums up Professor Stingray too!

  21. My kitten, who just turned two (so i guess hes not a kitten really) STILL loves to bite. The only problem is that when he cant see skin, he doesn't know its skin and bites 10 times harder. So if he bites your arm and its covered by a sleeve... he bites like hes trying to kill something!

  23. oh goodness. he is just the cutest little thing!! i love him. those photos with the other cats are too funny, i remember when we got our little andy electric and she was the same way, always wanting to play with the big kids (aka: the older cats) and they definitely hated being bugged while sleeping as well. eventually they all just kind of do their own thing...or become best friends, that'd be cute!!

  26. This might sound mean. But when I got my baby Kenickie as a kitten (I saved her saved at the vet I used to work at) she had a TERRIBLE addiction to biting feet. Under the sheets, out in the open, while going to the bathroom! Everywhere!
Finally one night I got fed up with it, and when she went to chomp down on my toes, I just kicked up a little bit. It surprised her and made her back away. She only bit a few more times, and with each time a small kick to follow. She learned quick and was still the same loving kitten, without the biting habit!

  30. Sarah, who knows! I didn't really want another one, I was perfectly happy with my three babies. But I just couldn't not keep this poor sick, little siamese stray. Ya know? If we ever do get another kitty it won't be for many many years.

    ReplyDelete
  31. But what if tomorrow another cute stray ends up on your doorstep? could you resist? I recently had a third kitty, also a stray. I'm afraid that if they keep finding me I'll end up with a house full of kitties!

  34. My kitten is EXACTLY like the Professor. He hardly ever sleeps, every waking second is play time, and he loves to bite.
I think that started because when I first got him, his teeth weren't that strong yet, so it didn't hurt, and I used to play with him by letting him bite my hands. So now that he's older, I don't know what to do to make him stop. He loves to hide around corners and jump out at me, then he wraps his arms around my ankle and starts biting me. Maybe I'll do some research on how to get a kitten to stop biting. If I find anything good, I'll post the links for you.
